Now that I've hooked my man I can wine and dine him on the cheap, and this is definetly at the top of the list of things to do when the funds have dwindled. For this visit, we went for 2 of my friend's birthday.  There were 20 of us, so it was difficult to really hang out with each other, but other than that everything was a blast. If you wanna hit everything in the 4 hours they're open I would zig-zag across the museum - everyone goes to the Rainforest RIGHT before it closes, so go there near the beginning of the night. Everyone goes to the roof to use the telescopes at the VERY end of the evening - go at the beginning. The food was over priced. The drinks were strong, but pricey ($8 for a baby plastic cup). The bars are cash only, but there is an ATM and the cafeteria is the only place that DOES take cards. Also, the cafeteria has different wine and beer than all the other bars in the museum - and it is MUCH better. The wine the bars served tasted like wine made with splenda - not NEARLY as awesome as it sounds. I can't wait to go back! It's nice to do fun things like this with the joy of alcohol and the lack of ankle bitters running around.

San Francisco, where I currently reside, is a foodie's heaven. We have inventive cuisines, Michelin stars, and an ever-expanding roster of celebrity chefs. BUT what we do not have is good Southern cookin'. So on the rare occasion that I actually got to visit ATL (it was also the BF's first visit to the South), I wanted nothing but the best that my hometown had to offer. Recommendations for this place came from trustworthy sources and rateclubs, of course. We came for a week day lunch so it wasn't too busy. The atmosphere was friendly. There were lots of business suits and ladies who lunch types, but no one made me feel out of place even though I was just in jeans. And the food! The menu has a lot to choose from. Nothing especially inventive, but they have all the Southern comfort staples. We started off by receiving corn bread and biscuits. WIth a bit of honey & lots of butter, they were just right thing to get the meal started. The cornbread was especially moist and held together well. The BF got the buttermilk chicken w/ green beans & mashed potatoes. I went out on a limb and got the Carolina Chicken Bog. We also got a side of collard greens, which were cooked perfectly and not mouth-puckering sour or mushy like some SF places make them. The fried chicken, one of their specialties, got two thumbs up. Crispy on the outside, moist on the inside. Also not greasy. Highly recommend. My dish was good, but not great. It was similar to a Jambalaya, but with much less spice. I was looking for something with a bit more flavor, and this dish was bland. I requested hot sauce, but even that didn't really make a huge difference. Kind of a bummer, but there is always next time. Maybe it was the corn bread/biscuit that I consumed at the beginning of the meal, but I was pretty stuffed (and I still had 1/2 of my dish left over). They definitely don't skimp on the portions here. Given that I don't live in ATL, it'll be hard for me to come here as a regular. I will, however, make sure to come back on my future visits.

About 1984: Soooo much better than 80's night at DNA. The music in the back room was awesome. A good mix of The Cure, a little Madonna and everything in between. I don't know about the front room, I only passed by once on my way out for a smoke and they were playing Prince. About it's reputation about being a meat market: Absolutely true. So, to the guy with the hat dancing in the back left corner (emotionally unbalanced #1), here's a tip on how to hit on girls. Don't approach me with an insult and then try to be cool and friendly. Interaction went something like this: Guy as his passing by in a very crowded hall "So, do you always carry a dark cloud over your head?" Me: "Yes" sometime later guy "did I just see you smile?! I think I did." me: "Yeah?! I guess you win a cookie!" Sometime later the same guy starts rubbing himself against one my friends, and when told off he got very upset and emotional. Something about being judged or whatever the fuck. Second Emotionally Unbalanced Guy in the white shirt and curly fro, here's a hint for you. Do not, and I repeat, DO NOT sneak up behind girls and start dancing like some sort of pelican on crack. It's creepy. And sad. Seriously, I felt bad for the guy. You'd think he's get the hint after the first 5 times of being ditched and blocked by the same girls. But no, he kept coming back for more. Things to complain about: $8  for a Kettle/Cran. Not bad except the drink was finished after 3 sips. Weak. Make sure you order form the sweet bartender in the back room, he's very generous with the vodka. When you see him, you'll know what I mean by sweet. And the place was crowded at one point that I had to go outside for a while. I usually don't take smoke breaks because I'm too afraid to miss a good song, but if you can't move, you can't move. what's the point. The place started to empty out a bit by 1am. Overall I had an awesome time and the music was great. I'll definitely be going back, inspite of emotionally unbalanced #1 and #2. I got the feeling they were regulars.
