by Orval Ducey on It's good, I've been to their Seattle location before and finally tried out this one. I had the fettuchini alfredo and my friend had the squash ravioli, both were excellent and he also loved the pumpkin cheesecake. I wasn't offerd the take home pasta, but I remember seeing it on the menu. Oh well, it's not like I need those carbs anyways. Great place for a business dinner.
by Monte Varoz on There's a lot of mixed review for Iguana, and I can certainly see why. Iguana is another restaurant/ lounge. The set up is such where the first floor is for dining and the second floor and basemen (never opens anymore) is for lounging/ dancing. There was an Asian dude teaching salsa Thursday night around 6:30, I know, weird huh? The place didn't pick up until after 8 where it's mostly salsa / meringue music. Later on, they were spinning hip-hop/ top 40. It's funny how when they switch from salsa to hip-hop, everyone stops dancing. Oh no, what do I do now? But the crowd in general is pretty laid back and I didn't experience any of the BS dress code issue. In fact, there were no bouncer/ doorman the entire night. Maybe this place is different on the weekends, but seriously though, it's really not a lounge/ club, so why would people come for that on the weekend's right? Now, the one positive - their mojito. Wow... There's a Smorgasbord of different flavor mojito and let's say I didn't survive to try all the flavors. I spend a good part of my night on my blackberry, so I guess I had a blast!!!
by Jeanene V. on I caught a flier for a burlesque show featuring Viva Los Angeles at Bordello. The first I have to say is that the decor of this place is amazing!! The new owner did one hell of a job renovating the place. Walking through the door transports you back in time. Back to the time of the origin of the building as a working brothel. The parlour feel lingers throughout the building. All that aside...the evening blew! The staff was there but not really friendly or helpful. Due to the lack of ventilation and air, my girlfriend and I had to take several trips outside to keep from passing out. Who needs to go to the sauna, just come hangout here. I am guessing they kept the heat on to encourage beverage consumption. I can't remember the last time I was charged NINE DOLLARS for a mixed drink!! I understand this is Los Angeles, but it is downtown Los Angeles! All in all, it is a kick ass bar just for the atmosphere and laid back crowd. But the overpriced drinks, lack of breathable air and the shady valet dudes (do yourself a favor and just park on the street) kind of makes me think twice about going back.
