My favorite Atlanta club! I'm a danceaholic (see my profile pics for evidence) and this is THE danceteria in Atlanta. It's super grungy, at the bottom of, what's for all intents and purposes, a cave. But on Friday nights the DJ plays the best mix of old school hip hop, funk and 80s pop on the main floor, with more reggae tinged sounds in the little room off the entrance. I can budget $20 and have a blast: $10 for the entry, $5 for a Lemon Drop and $4 for a Red Stripe and have a good time. The men are friendly, if not the most affluent. You'll find none of the posturing and flashiness of the more mainstream Atlanta clubs. The crowd is a mix of ages and I feel comfy going there solo. Love it!

I've been to the Tavern a bunch of times, to be honest it's not really my crowd. I'll put it this way, I'm a guy that sees clothes as functional items, and don't tend to mix well with the crowds that see clothes as a way to show how much of a douchebag you are. That being said, the bartenders here always make my visit pleasant. Pat is awesome, and he is always tossing shit around like a superstar juggler. I've never eaten here, I'm sure the food is fine. To be honest, most places that I go to have food that taste just fine, I'm not a rateclubser with a marketing degree or software designer that tries to be a harsh food critic. I'm sure I've eaten in just as many places as the next guy, my opinion is no more valid, I am not god's special creature. (I'm not sure what that has to do with this place, but I digress)

I recently met a group of friends at Rassela's before heading to a show at The Fillmore. I'd been there a handful of times in the past, always for drinks and always late. I was surprised when one of my friends suggested we eat there. I didn't even know they served food! To my delight we had a delicious meal of fried Ethiopian pastries filled with spiced lamb followed by a hearty portion of vegetarian goodies. Spiced lentils, braised cabbage and delicious breads. The atmosphere was a little quirky as there was a huge big screen TV directly behind our table and the occasional belligerent patron being ushered out by one of the servers. I usually head to Japan Town for pre-Fillmore meals but I just may make Rassela's my go to spot from now on.
