Rod and iron, dark and red, elixirs and bobcuts, Ernest Hemingway meet Virginia Woolf, hail the Great Gatsby. A friend's birthday party, calling for 1920s gear, was held in one of the back areas last night. So with a white flapper dress, pearls, and a gold feathered handband, I parked a block away and high-tailed myself there. There was valet - but why pay $10 or so when there's $3 parking around the corner? There was a line but I got in in less than a minute. I was surprised to find many guys and girls - not of our party - dressed up for the part. :) Navigating the place was easy - I've been several times before, but only for drinks and not a get-together. There are apparently several areas for large gatherings, and we took up the back. Drinks came fast and my sazerac hit the spot. There was also a lady with a sweet glittery fairy costume pushing around a cart of absinthe. Black and white movies screaming The Lost Generation played on several walls. Some ordered food; I had a bite of truffled mac n' cheese - mmm creamy and savory! Dark, studded and regal chairs, couches and ottomans were comfy. The lighting was extremely dark, so it was difficult to actually tell whether everyone was in the camera's periphery. Still, it was hot, music was great, and we generally had a great time in our nook!

Why don't we have more places like this? Remember, you don't come here for the food. Meh. You come here for the live band performance. Simply fantastic. It will get your groove back! ;)
