Well, This was my first crack at clubbing LA Style. I have to say, I am a "Vegas-a-holic" so I wanted to see what this scene had to offer. We (my Boyfriend and I) went here after the 2010 BET awards where Ludacris was having his after party. Since The cover was only 30 Bucks (Diddy's was 150 at Les Deux around the corner) we decided to jump in the GA line.. Which I'd have to say was MUCH MORE organized than any Vegas nightclub. Finally got in after about an half of waiting..  The atmosphere was amazing. There was a Pond in the middle of the outdoor area, which you can sit on. There are many ways to get inside to the dance floor.  Once you're there you'll find that there is sooooo much room to dance. there are several bars in this club (didn't get to buy a drink cause we drove back to san diego after the night was over). There is also a Catwalk on top of the bar in the main room, which was pretty cool. They had dancers and a few artist perform. All in all.. I will be back! LA is closer than Vegas and well worth it...

If you love creepy blacklight pictures of Elvis and other celebrities hanging above the bar while you get drunk off of really strong margaritas then this is the place for you. Someone described this place as the bar from "From Dusk 'Til Dawn" and they were right on - except no vampires (good) and no Salma Hayek (bad). Always the first stop on our whirlwind drunkfest tour of Dirty Hollywood. The crowd is really fun and down to earth, even the celebs that hang out at VM are cool (Vince Vaughn is a regular). Try the Velvet Margarita - its $10 and served in a pineapple but a few of these will have you smiling and dancing like a goofy kid in no time. The back patio is a nice area to hang out and have a conversation with complete strangers. The bar in the back patio is also less crowded and easier to get served at than the inside. ** I usually go to VM to drink, but I have tried the food once and it was good Mexican by LA standards. The portions are huge and can easily be split among you and a date.

I don't think I'll ever be ok with calling this place the Avalon... it'll always be the Palace to me I go to alot of shows here, and back in the day, I even braved many a "Club Kiis" night here... you know, lots of 18 year old girls (this is when I was 18) a few 18-20 year old guys and a ton of creepy 40-something men dancing to pop music and hip-hop-light? And it's usually home to some pretty good times. Alot of really god mid-level and baby bands play here and some even like it enough to use it for back to back nights rather than jump to a larger venue. Blackberry even rented it out a couple weeks back for an amazing party with Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age so you never know what the Pal...I mean Avalon may bring you. The theater itself is yet another old Hollywood movie house that has been revived to be a concert venue, having been closed a few times itself for the standard Hollywood facelifts in between. The sound is usually alright (although I have seen a seriously irate sound guy completely turn off a snotty-young band's sound mid-set before) and the bartenders tend to be more friendly than at alot of other venues. The floor is huge and perfect for spreading out to get your groove on and the upstairs balcony provides good refuge for the weary concert goers who prefer to sit. I wish the merch area didn't block one of the 2 entrance paths but it's fine, us smart kids just go the other way anyway.
