I'm in heart with the gnocchi! I tend to inhale my food when I dine out, but at Maggiano's, I slow down and savor every potato pillow - treasuring each to the last bite. The accompanying tomato sauce isn't overpowering - instead, it highlights the gnocchi. The sauce isn't overly-salty or tomato-y, but features other vegetables as well. And the gnocchi doesn't come swimming in the sauce - but lies in a bed of it. The baked ziti is effin' tops - even the next day if you take it home. The Italian sausage is very simple - which is probably why it tastes so great. Maggiano's doesn't go out of its way to over-spice everything nor try "wow" everyone with a bunch of show. The cheese blend is in just the right amount. A lot of restaurants like to smother everything in cheese, but the baked ziti wears cheese like a hat - just enough to cover, but not suffocate. And the tomato caprese is served chilled. The slices of mozzarella taste fresh - they don't have that overly-cheesy flavor like most cheese many of us find at our local grocery stores. Additionally, the slices of mozzarella are served on top of crispy, chilled tomatoes, with a dash of balsamic vinegar. Yum! The service could be a little better, but it's still good. The staff seems a tad deflated - but they still got everything done. I'm sure most of us who used to work in retail and restaurants felt like bitchslapping the living hell out of most customers before giving them a hearty kick on their asses then shoving them out the door into traffic - so I don't blame them. Ha. The only thing that blows about this place is that it's located in the uppity, faux (poorly executed)-urban mess known as the Domain.

Went there last night with husband and friends. Guys wanted to watch football and I wanted a decent meal so seemed like good compromise. Honestly, I wasn't expecting much and was pleasantly surprised. Food was better than I expected. It certainly doesn't feel like a sports bar, so not sure how much fun it would be during a big sporting event but worked for our needs last night. Table shared the trio appetizer with salsa, guacamole & white queso. The chips tasted a bit stale to me, but the other items were good. We also ordered the fried shrimp & oysters appetizer that comes with fries and enjoyed it so much we had a second. Macaroni and cheese for the table was nice, but have had better. Beef tenderloin sliders were well-prepared and my husband loved his chophouse burger. Their coleslaw shouldn't be missed- not a mayonnaise fiasco like most, but light vinigarette and walnuts with a sweet taste to it. No one had room to try the brownie dessert, but look forward to trying it next time.

The Park and I go waaaay back. It's a trusty old hang-out spot because it's always free, you can dress casually (sneakers...yes!!), and the music's pretty good. It can get insanely packed and that's when I usually jet. Because I hate being pushed and shoved and smacked. I also don't see a point in the couches up on the rooftop. It just takes up space, though they are handy during the winter. We just pile our jackets up on 'em. Why I'm not giving The Park more stars is because while partying, I've seen rats running around. So uhh...try not to dine there....yea...
