The food is subpar, but the mexican martini's are way above par and always guaranttee a great afterparty. Add the fact that seating for over 4 people will ALWAYS be awkward and difficult when having to sit inside and this place lands a fat 3 star in my libro. Thats spanish for book.

I had the pleasant experience of dining at Continental Midtown at around 10pm on the first night of Snowpocalypse, Part II. Since it was snowpocalyptic, my Angeleno girlfriend (who had made it into town on one of the last flights into PHL that afternoon) was looking for some comfort food, and I immediately thought of Continental's Lobster Mac n' Cheese that I had heard so much about on rateclubs and elsewhere. Well, we ordered that and it was delicious. I love macaroni and cheese, from Easy Mac to white truffle, and--DAMN!--did that Lobster Mac n' Cheese hit the spot. It was almost creamy and decadent enough to make me forget that the sky was falling. Almost. Additionally, we ordered the Crab Pad Thai, which also provided some comforting familiarity with a dose of the indulgent. Drinks took the form of a dirty martini for the girlfriend and a couple of Yuenglings for me. I remember the girlfriend enjoyed her martini quite a bit, and my Yuenglings were, well... Yuenglings, albeit from a bottle, which was slightly disappointing. I also remember them being slightly expensive, but not enough to get bent out of shape. The rooftop bar was probably covered with three feet of snow during our visit, but I've been up there a couple of times during warmer days, and it's left me with mixed feelings... After finally eating in the restaurant, I'm going to have to say that is my preferred half of Continental. The rooftop gets a little crowded and the crowd a little ostentatious, and, to be honest, I don't quite understand the appeal of a rooftop bar with a lackluster view. (Perhaps I am spoiled by The Standard and Skybar?) BOTTOM LINE: The restaurant at Continental Midtown is excellent, serving up a wide variety of comfort foods containing the occasional luxurious ingredient, as well as slightly more exotic fare... The drinks are mixed well and tend to be more creative than average, and the rooftop is a decent place to kick it if it isn't too crowded.
