Tenjune was the first nightclub I experienced in the city before moving here. Being from LA and a Hollywood nightclub connoisseur, I had pretty high expectations to begin with, NYC being known for its epic nightlife. Tenjune on a tuesday night was nothing short of amazing and exceeded and shattered all expectations. Located beneath the trendy and popular restaurant STK, the space is bigger than a lounge, yet cozy and more intimate than a mega-club [Marquee, M2, etc.]. As you descend the staircase (remember you will have to traverse these as you make your exit) you can hear the bass thump louder and louder. At the bottom, to the left lies the main room and straight ahead will be the restrooms. Directly to your left will be the coat check. Tenjune has a simple, rectangular layout. As you enter you will find the bar to the left. Opposite the bar tables are lined against the outskirts. The middle-ground serves as a pseudo-dancefloor, until the crowd gathering around the bar grows and grows. To the right lies more dancing space, and the infamous Tenjune horseshoe, double-tiered, and lines with tables for bottle service. At the far end to your right lies the DJ booth. What makes Tenjune so incredible? To begin with the space is the perfect size - not too big, and not too small. It's intimate, but big enough for a great party. Though it's been open awhile (over 2 years, which is a lot for an NYC club) it's still going strong and attracts a great crowd on the weekdays. Tuesdays are the nights to go, and avoid weekends like the plague as it attracts the B&T crowd, and tourists alike. And though it was a random Tuesday, by 1am every last table in the club was sold, and the place was packed to capacity. Everyone was dancing and having a great time; people were dancing on tables and the bottles kept coming out. Sure, it's MePa, and the crowd can seem a bit pretentious, but once inside everyone is dancing and having a great time. Not to mention the DJ was ridiculously amazing coupled with the crazy ceiling lightshow made for a great spot. What's not to love? Yes, it's a nightclub. Yes, it's in the middle of MePa. Yes, drinks average $17, and aren't very strong. And yes, there is an automatic 20% gratuity added to your tab - so 1) don't get too smashed before closing your tab and 2) make sure you read it carefully and don't end up tipping 40%. Helpful Hints: though I was on a list, I got arrived with 2 ladies around 11.45 and we were whisked right in, no questions asked. Overall the space was pretty empty, but come 12.30, people we flowing in by the masses. Come 1.00a, the place was completely full. Get there early to ensure entry, and have a good ratio and be dressed appropriately. Coat check is $3. Bottom Line: Tenjune is definitely worth checking out. Though it may not be the "hot spot" as it used to be a few years ago, it's still an amazing space and a guaranteed amazing night out. Go on a weekday, grab some friends, be prepared to drink, dance, and have an epic evening.

Once was enough. I was invited to come by a friend to meet people. I was bored out of my mind. The music sucked and the room is filled with a bunch of posers. Definitely not my scene. I will say the view was nice though.

"i think im turning japanese, i think im turning japanese, i really think so!" when i think of hiro, i imagine myself dancing to this song...this is a great place to dance, watch a live show (the best accoustics in NYC), and people watch...the vibe is awesome here! there arent any cheesy 18 year old hipsters with angular hair here nor are there dudes trying to dry hump you while dancing...its great!! the decor is very simple yet elegant...the second floor is amazing! i couldnt believe how big this place is! the drinks are a little pricey, but hey you only live once right?
