I've been to about over 150 dance parties since moving to San Francisco and I can honestly say that The EndUp's "Ghettodisco" on Fridays is one of the best weekly events. For one thing, it's consistently good. Not all dance parties that happen weekly are consistently good and last as long as Ghettodisco (11 p.m. - 11 a.m.!). The amazingly talented and super sweet resident DJ Hawthorne who hosts Ghettodisco does an excellent job at picking the line-up of DJs --- it ranges from local SF DJs like Adrian, Pam Hubbuck, James Torres, Vince to world class DJs like Eddie Elias, Wayne G, Shane Stiel, and Frank Wild! Usually, the night starts off with energetic music... and then about after 2 a.m. or so the music starts to mellow down, which is perfect because you know... your body kind of needs to rest from you-know-what... and then as morning approaches the music becomes a little more upbeat again and you know you've almost completed a Dance Marathon because alcohol is served again at 6 a.m.! It's a perfect little system because it allows you to recover during Saturday so that you're ready to dance again on the evening... or resume your life as a recovering mortal. Of course, there are also lots of people who come visit in the morning, because we all know Ghettodisco is also a substitute for gym membership - I've seriously toned up my body as a result of some of the amazing house music! But like all wonderful events, there will be those who aren't exactly fond of Ghettodisco. Here are the top complaints: 1. The cover is too expensive: well um, you do know it's free before midnight, right? Come before midnight. It's that simple. And if you still think it's expensive, well, perhaps you shoud consider making some more money, because clubbing is and will always be a form of luxury. And Ghettodisco is fucking gold. That and how many places do you know have after hours? Uh-huh. Exactly. And if you think it's expensive, then I hope you never visit clubs in LA or New York... because I can assure you that it's a hell of a lot more expensive with $15+ drinks and $6-8 water bottles. 2. The music sucks! Look... if all you listen to is promo only, top 40 or mainstream... well, go to a bar or an 18+ club. House music is for your soul. If you want to do techno, do Kontrol. If you want hip-hop, do Reggae Gold. If you want House, do Ghettodisco. There is something for everyone but if you walk into Ghettodisco expecting heavy pop music to be played, you will be disappointed. 3. The DJs suck! Every DJ I've known has always had at least one off night, but like I said, Ghettodisco is consistently good. If you don't like a particular DJ, don't come and listen to him/her... and if you really love your DJ, you know you will pay and support his/her efforts! Whenever there are long dance marathon sessions, you usually have multiple DJs --- each DJ brings a different crowd, and DJ Hawthorne does an excellent job picking good DJs. 4. Bring David Harness/Fag Fridays back! The one and only David Harness has moved onto other things and gigs... and that's life. As for Fag Fridays, it moved to Pink in the Mission. Why? Business reasons. Shit happens. Pink has been closed... for a while. Thus, Fag Fridays is dead... just as how Club Universe is dead... and people are still trying to bring back Club Universe, but to no avail. Ghettodisco is what we have now. It's wonderful, it's comfortable, it's consistently good, and it's good for your soul. Stop hating and embrace it. 5. It's sketchy. Um, no. While there are interesting characters at The EndUp in general, the people are non-pretentious. They are also for the most part, friendly. If you think the people are mean to you, then you shouldn't be clubbing in the first place. Read a book or eat a cookie.

Place is aweful. Door guys are wankers and crowd is cheap and tacky. We walked in and out. Suprised they're still even in business as we had the same experience last time in Sobe. Avoid!
