Mayes Oyster House is another great option for oysters on the cheap in the bay area! Nothing like coming into a bar to be greeted by a friendly bartender with an Irish accent and soaking in the warmth of an inviting fireplace. I must say I was suprised by the decor of Mayes considering it sits on the stretch of Polk that is in a perpetual weekend hip hop party. Apart from oysters and beer, we also ordered sweet and spicy fried shrimp. It went well with beer but wasn't anything that blew us out of the water. Still $9 for 6 pieces isn't bad but pales in comparison to $1 oysters which were reasonably fresh. I'll be back for happy hour for sure and it's not just because of the cheap oysters. Mayes is a pleasant place to have a drink and catch up with friends at the bar and be served by cordial staff. Now that's happy hour indeed.
by Russ Katcher on Warm atmosphere, nice people, good feel and late kitchen. I've always had a good experience with Ecco. Food is always on point. Drink list, on point. Mature, casual crowd there to do their own thing, not pretentious at all. Table dining or dining at the bar are equally accomodating experiences.
