by Kelly R. on I've been here twice. Once with a promoter on a Tuesday night, once for a private event for NYC law students (I got in with my BF). I have to say that I'm not much of a fancy-lounge type person, so I had not gotten wind of Marque's reputation before going. We got to the club super early....as in ten minutes before they opened, and we were ushered right in as soon as 11pm rolled around. Perhaps if I had been trying to get in later in the evening I would have experienced some of the velvet rope trauma that seems to characterize most peoples' experiences. I had a faaaaabulous time with the promoter, at a table with bottle service. The DJ was great, and I had a great time dancing and drinking surrounded by....better-than-average-but-not-amazing people. The private event I attended kind of sucked. Music sucked, drinks sucked (but were discounted for the event), decorations sucked. They just really phoned it in. I suppose they probably feel indignant at the thought of hosting a party for petty little law students. They won't be happy until they grow into rich lawyers that come back to pay their insane cover charges and drink prices. So it's a great club on weeknights...if you don't have to pay. If I did have to pay, I think I would have to bump it down to two stars.
by Curt Tostanoski on Attention all techno/house music aficionados: If you're into bald men with steroid-injected muscles wearing shirts 3 sizes too small - smelling of Jack Daniel's - or over-tanned, over-hairbleached women with fake breasts wearing rhinestone encrusted tops with low rider jeans (circa 1998) - smelling of Long Island ice teas and cranberry vodkas, then this is the place for you! Sadly, I am into none of the above. Therefore, I have decided that Ruby Skye is not the place for me.
