It was basically the Academy of Science at night. I expected it to be different than going during the day, but all they did was add a couple of tables with tubs of cheaper grade alcohol that's overpriced and a crappy DJ and it definitely too crowded. They call that nightlife? More like a nightmare. To me, it was advertised as a cool hang out spot, but it was pretty lame in general. I guess you can't expect much from Nightlife. It's a museum after all. Needs to be thought out and executed better. Tables with tubs of alcohol next to it? Seems pretty tacky.

Well I have to say that since I am a promoter for this venue and before I became one, years back when ICON opened I threw my birthday party here. I was very pleased and the bar host was very attentive, took care of my guest list and a complimentary champagne on the house. If it's a birthday, bachelorette event, you better believe that they will take care of you. It's been a year that I've been doing events at ICON and I'm most delighted with the owner's and staff. This place gets packed fast since they are in a hot spot of town, smack down Folsom and 8th street. Worth checking out and see for yourself.

No cover! Wow, coming from LA, that's amazing! You're greeted by a big buddha as well as a big L bar that takes up most of the small room. Why a big symbol of suffering? To portend things to come, especially at the bar? Or the suffering among the sweaty masses inside the dance rooms? After you fight through your way through the bar, it's like a "choose your own adventure" series - do you want to flip to page 48 or 72? Straight ahead is the huge dance floor with its own crowded, square shaped bar. Upstairs is another lounge area. Take a curve and you're in the trance area. This place is a maze! On weekend nights, the main room becomes packed, like a stuck-in-the-elevator-with-no-air feel or a I-am-in-a-crowded-frat-house-and-its-so-packed-I'm -going-to-take-advantage-feel. Oh! The best way to conceptualize it is a cross between the celebration scene in the Matrix 3 but your body is bound like the mummy in the Mummy. You will get drinks spilled on you. You will be groped. And you will lose your friends. But if you can stand that... well you just experienced the trinity. =) Tip: The drinks are LA prices. Get stampped and go to IMO for cheaper soju and drinks before you come back.
