Bruno's: what is IS NOW. It's a swanky low-lit wood bar with DELICIOUS Home-cooked style Food and excellent drinks. Ryan and Katharine (of former Broken Record fame) have taken over Bruno's kitchen and turned it into a top notch comfort food mecca. BBQ off the hook, super scrumptious sides to go with. Make sure you're drinking redbull or risk sliding into the warmest happiest food coma. Some highlights: PULLED PORK: I used to be addicted to the pulled pork sandwich, because it has the perfect balance of smoky tender shredded pork to perfectly crisp cabbage. Katharine makes the perfect buns for this sandwich by hand from scratch. Yah @$!^%$#@*!!!! I said SCRATCH. So I used to be in love with the pulled pork (insert filthy joke here) and then the smoked tofu stole my heart. SMOKED TOFU: It's done Bahn Mi style. Sweet sauce, smoky tofu, cialntro, cabbage, and the perfect baguette. It is a flavor sensation. BUTTERMILK BISCUIT: Katharine won Best Biscuit in the Bay for this one. It's a stack of warm fluffy layers of biscuit goodness. God help us all. SPICY CHEESY GRITS: S. Carolina grits... creamy as can be, add a little jalepeno, load in some cheese... Every bite is like languorous hot love. DESSERTS: ( Plan ahead when you begin your meal. SAVE ROOM for DESSERT! If you can't eat it there, take it home for later.) Don't leave here without trying one of Katharine's desserts. She rotates them out seasonally and they are always so damn good. If she offers you "CRACK" Seriously don't turn it down. Light crispy cracker, loaded with a crisp butter layer of toffee and drenched in dark chocolate. You will be coming back for more, hence the name... Anyhow, it's all made with Lot's of LOVE and you can taste it. Smoky, homey LOVE. Get there and stuff your face As Soon and As Often As Possible.

I went to Bootie on March 10th. It was my first time, and it was a blast. The house band were really awesome, the mashups were great. The place got a little too crowded for my liking at about 11:30. I stuck to the upstairs lounge which was nice and the bartender there was very kind. I thought the crowd would be a bit older, but it was fine how it was, everyone was having a good time.
