by Elis I. on Booked a room here on an online discount service - the one where you find out the hotel name after you pay. Read rateclubs reviews and saw that I could expect a cheaply decorated, now shabby, small room, with a cool photo over the bed. I saw that I could expect the shower to leak all over the floor and to hear my neighbors clearly through the walls. Check, check, check. I called ahead to request a quiet room, and it was fairly quiet except for anything said in the hallway. I arrived at 1pm on New Year's Day and asked for early check-in. I waited in the lobby with my cell phone. At the regular check-in time, 3pm, I went back and said, Scrap the early check-in, how about regular check-in? Magically, my room was ready! As expected, the furniture (laminated) was peeling, the lampshade was stained, there were large black scuff marks on the bathroom floor. The view wasn't horrible - looks like rooms 20 and up are toward the back of the hotel with 1 - 20 toward the front (hills view). The shower door is only halfway across, but that's not the problem. The problem is the gap between the glass and the wall. Put a hand towel on the floor along the front end of the tub to control the puddle size. I had invited a few friends to have a casual dinner, but the burger bar (25 Degrees) is shabby and small, with no room for a party larger than 6. An employee told me we could order in there and eat just outside in the big old lobby, so that's what we planned. Unfortunately, when we went to order, the matron said it was not possible unless we ordered takeway. Then, though we wanted to place a few separate takeway orders, she said an 18% tip would be included because there were more than 8 in the party. Oh, hell no. I'm not sure many people tip on takeaway at all, much less 18%...? They had those handy breakfast order slips you hang on the doorknob before 3am. I ordered a continental (pastries, toast, tea) and an oatmeal. The oatmeal didn't arrive. I called down and said, I ordered an oatmeal. The response? Verbatim: No you didn't. Ah - what?? (Incidentally, the greasy pastries soaked through the napkin, and though there was butter and jam there was no toast. When I inquired, they said it was pastries OR toast. No. I had the order slip in my hand. It was not OR.) Anyhow, Adolpho, the kind manager, comped the breakfast when I mentioned the No you didn't. Was it all worth the discounted price I paid? Not really. Maybe the place seems better when you're drunk and not old enough to know what a good hotel is like. PS: Valet is $30. Two blocks away is free street parking. Just sayin.
by Tiana M. on I've been to this club 3 times, and still not sure how I feel about it. I will say that the crowd is not defined, and the cigarette smoke is a big turn off. I do like that there are multiple rooms to choose from with different genres of music in each. Parking is reasonable, there is an option for valet and several surrounding areas to park on the street. Inside, there is a lot of room to move around until it gets crowded, and it is furnished well, if you ever get a chance to see it while the crowd is slim. Just still not sure how much I like it...
