In the past few years The Local has become a haven for hipsters that don't actually ride fixed gear bikes (see 97 Astoria for that) more than an actual bar for the local of the area. Along with this transition is the recent update to a new menu which is pretty much focused on BBQ and Frying things. Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE both of these things, but I like to balanced them with a side salad to pretend that I'm being healthy, and this this department I was out of luck at The Local as they don't offer salads. In fact the waitress suggested that she could bring out some sandwich toppings and we could make our own salad.. oh to be 23 again. So, if you are in the area and want drinks and some grub The Righteous Room is just 4 blocks up the street is a much better choice.

XIV is relatively new restaurant that is owned by an award-winning celebrity chef, Michael Mina and designed by Phillipe Starck, a famed French designer. Since the restaurant is attached to such huge names, it is rather on a pricey side, but they have just introduced a new happy hour menu called "6ix on Sunset" that will allow you to partake in this restaurant's dining experience. Available on the Terrace, on Tuesdays-Saturdays, 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. The happy hour includes: $6 cocktails, $6 terrace menu, $6 valet. Cocktail options: M (mango vodka, simple syrup, lemon juice) Bramble (gin, fresh lemon, creme de mures and muddled blackberries) Shelter Sangria (white grapes, vodka and elderflower liqueur) Pitchers of sangria and vodka ginger limeade for $24 Food Menu options: Lobster Corn Dogs, Tempura Prawns, Kobe Sliders and Black Truffle Popcorn The happy hour menu is available through September 29, 2009. For more LA Dining Deals, check out my profile for the website's name.

I went here last night for a going away get-together for a friend who was moving back to Europe. I probably would have never ventured to this place had it not been for her (it's quite far from my humble abode in Brooklyn), but I'm so happy I did! The Ear Inn is a little piece of history. When you walk into the place you can feel it. But it doesn't feel dirty or dated. And it's completely unpretentious! Grab a table with some friends, get a beer (you'd be crazy to drink mixed drinks here), and relax. It is such a perfect winter spot to come in and escape the cold!
