by Natan O. on While it seems I'm at the GAMH's sister club Slims more often, I'd say this is in my top favorite 3 venues in San Francisco. The decor is gorgeous both inside and out and immediately you feel immersed in the VIctorian early 20th century era. The sound quality is superb and there is ample area in the main area. Bar selection is more than decent with beers/cocktails in the $4-7 range. Even though I'm usually downstairs during the main act, I love going upstairs to get a drink at the second bar or to view the stage below from the perimeter balcony. I highly recommend the GAMH.
by Malcolm O. on Been here many times for drinks (after dinner service). Place is nice and big to allow lots of people, and lots of space. You get the choice of: - a typical grill/bar downstairs; - a restaurant area to sit and chat; - an outdoor area to relax or have a smoke; - another cozy bar area downstairs; and - an upstairs lounge for dancing/lounging (and it has a hot tub) Everytime I've been there, we didn't have any trouble or wait getting in and there's been no cover. Overall, one of the better places in Manhattan for nightlife. I'll have to try it for the food someday.. UPDATE: they have now become more strict and require a certain dress code and 1:1 guy:girl ratio to get in. Sometimes annoying, but still a cool place to hang out. On certain nights it can get WAY overcrowded (and hot) in the upper lounge though.. and sometimes I wish there was more of a mixed crowd. -1 star.
