by Ivy L. on This place was really good when I was there. I liked the exotic food and loved the menu... well it is a Starr! I don't know if they are or will be open much longer. They had a sign on the door for private party's to call for reservations? I hate to see a grate place like this go.
by Lessie Seahorn on Dare I say Coda is my new favorite Jazz place in the entire city? Yes, yes, yes and i'll tell you why this place had me out until 2am on a school night. First things first: cheap carafes of really good wine. Wine on tap in fact and if you're curious- just try, try again. Second: The music here is amazing. Not just the band playing but the ambiance, the entire experience. This isn't one of those big, fancy, informal jazz clubs. You'll feel like you're on stage sitting with the musicians as they play. You cannot come to Coda without being engulfed in the music. I came out for B3 Wednesdays and saw Adrian Giovenco & friends. And by friends I mean that he + 2 stopped their set, let a bunch of other people come on stage to play/sing and then had one big jam session. Coda rocked my Wednesday night and I can't wait to go back on other nights and do it again!
by Anastacia Scouller on When you walked towards Tao from the outside, it may not seem like much. However after you pass through the heavy exterior doors, you enter into a world that's Asian but not quite. I guess Asian fusion would be the appropriate term. The first thing I thought to myself when I entered Tao was that, god damn that is a big ass Buddhist statue. The restaurant also had a huge imperial scroll decked out with a lot of Chinese characters that I cannot read for a ceiling. All Tao needs at this point is a giant cherry blossom tree in the corner to complete the Asian theme trifecta. While the restaurant is decked out from top to bottom with Asian themed decorations, the restaurant also maintains a very club-like feel with its dim lights, fast paced club mixes, and the tendency to make you wait for a half hour before seating you even though you had made a reservation beforehand and its Sunday night at 11pm and plenty of tables are visibly available, in the same way how most clubs make you wait. The food at Tao wasn't particularly good when considering the price. In fact, some of the dishes were downright disappointing. The kobe beef roll or whatever it was called maintained the soft marble texture the beef is renowned for, but it still tasted pitifully plain. The vegetable dumplings were garbage and surprisingly the cheapest appetizer, the pork gyoza was the only thing that wasn't bad, but the sauce it came with was another story. Go Tao If you are willing to shell out big money for big ass statues, trendy spots, and loungy club music, because it is clear the selling point for this place is not in the food.
