Was invited here to the SF Guardian's Best of the Bay. Great hole-in-the-wall venue. There was a live show, free sushi and burgers, and a full bar with friendly baristas and complimentary vodka drinks (though the Manhattan was worth paying for). Dark and intimate, despite being relatively spacious.

Sparkling wine that actually sparkles! That's rare. Most places will give you a chilled glass of flat, lifeless "sparkling" wine. At Martuni's, enough people order the bubbly stuff here that it's not a problem. You won't get a glass from a bottled opened a week ago! Also, the martinis are a must-try. I loved the key lime martini. Martuni's is a fun piano bar in back and regular bar in front. The piano wasn't a sing-along-all-the-time kind of thing, but sing along when you feel moved. One point off for playing the oh-so-obvious tunes of Piano Man and Sweet Caroline. Too obvious.

For a chain sub place, it's great. I'd take it any day over Subway, Quizno's, etc. The place is spotless, the folks behind counter are always friendly, and the food comes fast. I'm amazingly addicted to the vegetarian sub and don't find it bland or too salty, but I like veggie subs. The chips are fantastic, too. If you're in the mood for a chain sandwich, it's worth a shot.
