by Khalilah Naranjo on Honestly, Im giving a second star for Bo. When I walked up, immediate eye contact with me and my group got in, in 2.5 seconds, even though they clearly skipped me on the list. My business card did the trick. I went here for a soft opening on Tuesday for entertainment people and PR. Walking in off the elevator, we were all immediately forced to find our way towards the music in a dark labyrinth, then to find the bar, while being ushered left and right "cant stand here", "gotta keep this clear folks!!" and a cornucopia of other cattle herding comments followed, I just led the way to the patio where about 50yards away was a bar. Come to find out, the entrance is the dance floor that can maybe fit 25 people. No wonder they were ushering us every-which way, no one would have known, we all thought it was the foyer. Anyway, complimentary drinks that night turned into not-so-much. And after about 20 minutes of being herded like cattle all around and no standing room because the 500 tables they have take up the majority of the space. I think I'll only come for a pool party during the summer, no more wasteful nights uncomfortably having to dance on a table like a 19year old stripper because you surely cant stand on the dance floor.
by Drucilla D. on An L.A. based DJ I've been dying to see was advertised as DJing "upstairs at Playhouse" on the Saturday night of the weekend that I was going to be in L.A. so I planned nothing else except a visit to the Playhouse. Afraid of what the line might be like outside, I tried to do my research ahead of time but it was really difficult to tell whether or not I'd have a difficult time getting in or if it was possible to RSVP to avoid the possibility of a line and guarantee admission. I ended up a friend of theirs on Facebook, a member of their fan group and the recipient of their weekly mailing list as a result. Anyhow, I can say nothing about any other night, but if you hope to go or plan on going on a Saturday, definitely get there to get in line early! By just shy of 11pm when my group of five arrived, the line was all the way down the block, practically wrapping around the corner. I won't give away my methods here on rateclubs, but we only had to wait in distraught two minutes at the back of the line before the five of us (three girls and two boys) were so graciously allowed to skip the line all together due to the extreme kindness, helpfulness and just straight up radness of one of the gatekeepers. The velvet rope was lifted and the doors opened to a private staircase that led upstairs to what we're assuming was the VIP section? We only discovered its exclusivity once we tried to check out the rest of the club downstairs and noticed the muscle and the velvet rope at the bottom of the inside stairs. Though the downstairs looked like quite the fun time (we saw Cirque du Soleil-esque acrobatics and awesome Go-Go dancers from our view), the Upstairs is where the fun was at. Everyone was awesome, there was a friggin' skylight, it was spacious yet intimate and OF COURSE, the DJ's were the best in the business. Though I retired from dancing back in 2002, I found myself totally shakin' it out of pure blissful fun. I don't know if I would receive the same treatment if I was to back during a future visit to L.A., but that would seriously be amazing. The crew at Playhouse showed me one of the best going out nights of my going out career.
