I came to Blvd3 for an old friend's birthday party and was pleasantly surprised at the venue, service and dancers (as in the "professional" dancers who auditions for gigs not go-go dancers who auditions to go-go). Since it was a birthday, we got table service with a great view over the dance floor. They had a catwalk right through the middle of the bar for a short fashion show. It was pretty awesome to watch. Throughout the night there were dancers on the stage/catwalk doing a GREAT job. These weren't the usual go-gos you see dancing on a small platform, they were actually using the entire area...one of them actually did part of the Beyonce Single Ladies dance when the song came up. The DJ that night was DJ Sleeper, is was a pretty awesome mix he had going. Now to any Go-Go dancers reading this (Like Gina). I'm not saying that you are not professional, I'm saying that there are many who aren't and I've gotten bored and grown tired of them. This was definitely different in a good way.

I had the privilege of coming to Mykonos Tavern this week for a friends birthday party and if there is one consistent thing I can say about Greek people, is they are very, very nice and giving. Case in point - 1st round of free Ouzo came around 10 minutes after we sat down. OPA! This location use to be an old Road House restaurant, of which I never went too. I had an opportunity to talk with one of the owners and he told us they put over a million dollars in to the place; and judging by all the rock, glass, lighting and sound system, I believe him. The place is extremely nice by Greek standards. 2nd round of Ouzo 33 minutes in - OPA!!!! We started with apps. I can't remember the name of anything I ate, but I do remember one that involved flaming cheese. hhhmmmm...sounds like a lot of rateclubsers I know. We also had the stuffed grape leaves and braised meatballs. The meatballs were amazing! while the grape leaves left something more to desire. Moved on to din-din. the group had a well rounded diversity of the entire menu. Everything from roasted lamb shank to pork and beef kabobs. I opted for a traditional Greek dish which turned out to be potatoes, pasta, meat, cheese and topped with a red sauce. It was surprisingly very good! Again with the Ouzo - OOOOOPPPPPPPAAAAAAAA!!!!! (can you tell we're getting drunk at this point) dinner is cleared away and all that remains are fresh beers and a few remnants of Ouzo waiting to be downed. As I mentioned, Greek people are real-friendly. Justin is one of the managers here, bright eyed, energetic young man looking to make it in the biz. And he will! one of the owners came by, and sorry, I didn't remember your name - and while I will never accept "I was drunk" as an excuse from any one, I sure as hell will give it. By the end of the night we had so many people to stop by our table and say hello and ask how our experience was. FANTASTIC! So if your asking your self, if you had such a good time Eric, then why only 4 stars? Why not the holy grail 5? Minus one star for a little "issue" we had at the start of our party. But the management team quickly recovered and came back strong. Another round of Ouzo - OOOOOOPPPPPPPPPPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Fun time, fun place! And did I mention i don't even like Ouzo?

The first time I stayed here in 2005 I was completely blown away by the incredible ambiance and coolness of the place. Since then, I've stayed in a few other W properties and that is why the perimeter W has lost a star in my opinion: it just doesn't stack up against it's cousins in Dallas, New Orleans and New York. This morning while driving around downtown I saw hope on the horizon: a new W Hotel under construction... I can't wait to see it once it's complete.
