by Aces M. on I used to love going here to hear my friend Nick Longo and his band play (check em out!). The food is a bit pricey, but the gorgonzola salad is fantastic, and I love the bowls/dishes they use-- great presentation. I really used to enjoy this place... I came here on my 21st birthday and was all pumped up about having some good food and listening to some great jazz. When we got there, they decided that I was not allowed in the dining area because I did not have the proper shoes. What?! First off, I had been there several times before wearing the exact same thing (all I wear are DCs). Second, it was my birthday. Third, when you're sitting down eating dinner NO ONE CAN SEE YOUR SHOES!! So, we were forced to sit at a very small table in the bar area (there were 4 of us). The plates overwhelmed the table because the bar tables are not meant to accommodate dinner for 4. Ugh, as you can see, I'm still ruffled by this event and that was over 2 years ago. Had this incident not occurred, I would have given Sambuca 4 stars. I used to really enjoy this place but have boycotted ever since. I may give it another shot in hopes that the establishment has cooled off a bit, although I'm pretty sure the hostess just didn't like me, as I notice several others wearing sneakers and much more casual attire than what I was wearing that night. I would still encourage you to try this place, especially when Nick Longo is playing (Wednesdays I believe?). I miss hearing him so I do think I'll give it another shot. I'll rateclubs again to share the experience, I'm really crossing my fingers! Plus it's a great date place :)
