While I can't image that this is a place that celebs frequent (worn cushions and bar surface, dated decor), it was great for a recent charity fundraiser event for my organization. Around 300 guests were able to mix and mingle without too much crowding, and the perimeter of the crowd had plenty of room to spare for a breather.  It was just enough extra room that you also didn't feel like there weren't enough people there. The bartenders were fantastic - I didn't hear any complaints about not getting enough drinks.  Very experienced and very fast.  To manage the flow a bit we also placed waitresses with pre-made drinks around the crowd.  I think that helped to minimize the swarm of people at the bar. I would only recommend Tenjune for an event during the warmer seasons as there is absolutely no room to check guests in but outside the front door.  Otherwise it would have to be down the stairs and in the hallway - in the path of quests going to and from the restroom and amidst blaring music.  Being outside worked out fine for us as we had a quiet space to sell tickets and check people in and the weather was nice.  I could see that being miserable if it were cold or rainy or something. Tenjune helped us to make our event a success and to inspire long-term support from young New Yorkers.  How do I know?  I can't count how many times I was asked: "When is the next event?"

Came her with Kristine M. and we were about a half hour early for our reservation. We chose to have a drink at the bar, while we waited for our table and that was quite a treat. First off, the bartender was hot and we both agreed that he was a pleasure to watch at work. I ordered what we call a frou frou drink from the drink menu and was quite pleased. I only wish I could remember what it was that I ordered. Guess I will have to return and try out that drink menu, again. That evening was part of the "Fifth Group Restaurants Summer of Love" promotions and we each opted to order from the prix fixe menu. I ordered the Stuffed Piquillo Peppers, Hangar Steak with pommes frites and the Blueberry Buttermilk Panna Cotta. Now, I really wanted to try the famous Fried Goat Cheese, but they were rolled in Panko and so, I chose the Stuffed Piquillo Peppers. They were very tasty and stuffed with mushrooms, Sherry and Manchego Cheese. I probably would have enjoyed them even more, had Kristine not ordered the bloody Fried Cheese Balls....J/K. The Hangar Steak was perfectly cooked medium-rare and the fries were crisp and delicious. Points were scored with the dish of mayo that was served along with the fries and steak, but points were lost for cutting my meat for me. First, I have always believed it is poor etiquette to cut all of your meat at one time. Aren't we supposed to slice it as we eat it? My theory was that it was cut up like that, just to fill up the already narrow dish. Not a huge complaint, though, the steak was very, very good and I guess that we can expect corners to be cut on a prix fixe meal. Another disappointment, (and I think this is our fault for not paying attention) was that we ordered the Wine Flight with our meal and typically a Wine Flight is between three to eight tastings of wine and so I incorrectly assumed that we would be getting a different wine for each course of the meal, but instead we only received two glasses of wine. A chardonnay and a Cabernet/Merlot blend. Had I any idea there would only be two glasses of wine I would have chosen what I wanted to drink and most certainly would not have ordered a chardonnay.  As it was, the wine flight was $14 and if we could have purchased wine that we would have enjoyed for the same price or not much more. Overall, my food was delicious and the service was 5 star. I will return, just not for the prix fixe meal.
