MJQ is my favorite place to cut a rug. You never have to deal with judgmental wallflowers who come to the club to be seen in their best outfits. In fact, I'd suggest wearing something you could care less about smelling of smoke and sweat. The variety of music here is always incredible. I love the energy of the crowd. This is truly a "let-it-all-loose" venue where you can be as rhythmless as you please. An underground gem among all of the stuffy lounges that dot the city. Minus one star because their cheap liquor always makes me ill. Drink beforehand or stick to bottled beer and you shall be fine.

I've been to Mighty at least a dozen times, and as somewhat of a sound Nazi, I've only really had one genuinely good time here. (And I do know how to have an excellent time, for the record.) This is what you get when you have a good soundsystem in a space that's totally wrong for it: mediocre to good sound in only a couple of spots. It's always a bummer when they book good talent to play here. On the one good night I had at Mighty, the legendary Jeff Mills had no business playing on a system this inferior. Eventhough he rocked the spot and left me speechless and eventhough I was high as a kite, I still thought the sound could be much better. Would probably make a much better roller skating rink than a night club. Be sure to get wasted before you get there because the $6-7 cocktail awaits with a little to no alcohol whatsoever ratio, plus it will take forever to get it. If you get there after midnight, you'll have to drink fast to get drunk at all, using the "order 2-3 drinks at a time" method. If you don't care about sound or music and just want to have drinks and/or get some, this wouldn't be a bad spot for you, so it's worth checking out. (And I'm not saying that like it's a bad thing, mind you!) EDIT 10/14/07: One more star because on my last visit I noticed the sound seemed a little improved and my drink was mysteriously a dollar less than usual and somewhat strong.
