by Richie Hollar on 06/03/08 This used to be five stars until I had the same roast beef sandwich a couple more times. Went there finally. Decor was beautiful. Absolutely stunning. Very big and spacious and reminded me of art deco early Hollywood-era smokey lounge minus the smoke and lounge. When you walk in, no one is there to coordinate where you can sit. No one greets you immediately..and I was left wandering around for about five minutes before taking a seat. The sandwich was not like I first remembered. Not as sweet anymore, but overly salty.. and worse yet, this time they neglected to put in the sprouts (let alone inform me that they have none in the kitchen BEFORE I ordered). The owner came out and was very apologetic, wanted to make it up to me by buying a soda, something.. I didn't want that. I wanted sprouts, darn it. But I felt for the guy so I declined. I heard this place has a bit of a curse to whoever leases the space. This restaurant will go under unless they reform these aspects.. But plain and simple, the place is simply way too large for what they need. It's more nightclub-ish than a sandwich/deli joint. Their salads aren't what I remembered to be either. And I only wrote this review a couple months ago! Wow! ------------------------------------ Original: One of the BEST roast beef sandwiches in my LIFE. Oh. My. God. I tasted sweet meaty heaven for that brief fifteen minutes and I savoured - actually SAVOURED my meal - instead of just gobbling it up. This was, by the way, delivery - I haven't set foot inside the actual place yet (warning: it is super deeeaaad! hardly anyone inside when I walk by at 5:30) The only downside is that it's a bit pricey for a sandwich - granted it comes with soup or salad (their salads are way awesome). Their place has huge flat screen TVs and enough tables to go around. Everyone in there looks nice, but we'll see. I'll try it out next week and see how "great" it is. But I have to agree with Scott G. It IS a piece of history - so you might as well check it out for experience's sake.
