by Tory Heter on How did I live in Philadelphia for a whole year without going to Silk City? I didn't eat there last night but went to a party on Labor day eve.First off the DJ can get it, purely on his musical taste. I don't know who it was but it says alot about a place when they hire someone who does not shy away from playing non-generic tracks. There was alot of old school hip hop played, at times remixed (is that a word) to give it a different twist. The drinks were reasonably priced and the service forgivably slow (it was packed). Again, the place is racially diverse which is always a plus for me. The energy of the room was good- I loved the vibe. The dance floor is packed with people who are actually dancing. No posers. The men seem to be polite and non threatening in their approach towards women. Umm yeah. Oh one thing I didn't like was the fact that it was sweltering in there. Well, maybe not sweltering, but it smelled a little funky. Like moldy. But I guess that's what clubs smell like. That and my friend had an altercation with the bouncer because we stepped out for a cigarette break and did not realise that the bar was closing to new patrons - and therefore anyone who stepped out- so we got shut out. When she tried to ask him why we were shut out he sort of just yelled at her. While I can see how stressful it must be to work with obnoxious drunks every night, and patience does wear thin, it cannot go without mention that he was extremely rude without it being warranted. Tsk Tsk. Great Club though, I'd totally hit it up again.
