by Matt K. on My girlfriend and I went went here this morning because she said they had a great traditional English breakfast. It had been quite a while since she had been there, and they must've gotten a new chef or something, because what they put in front of us was unrecognizable to her. Instead of the hard scrambled eggs I asked for, I got a sad, greasy pile of mush. And you know how people jokingly say "Oh, I can't cook, I could find a way to mess up toast! Ha ha!"? Well, they found a way to mess up toast. Instead of slices of toast we got some slightly heated up, wilted slices of bread. Seriously? You really don't know how to toast bread? The meat was decent enough, and the beans were good, but that's because they came out of a can. The coffee tasted like nothing more than hot tap water. And when you're literally the only people eating in the place, you really shouldn't have to wait that long for the waitress to put her cell phone down and bring you the check. They shouldn't call it an English breakfast. Any British person who walks in there is going to get pretty offended.
by Cyrus Dust on Sweet as sugar. This is one of those super hot cafes that no one really knows exists because it is tucked away on Sutter Street next to the Academy of Art. Sugar Cafe is brilliant, absolutely brilliant! Coffee bar by day, lounge by night, what a perfect idea. Upscale, uber trendy space, great for studying, free WI-FI. Plenty of seats with tables, even cozy lounge type chairs. One of those few Cafes where you can study for hours and the workers do not bother you at all. I absolutely enjoy the design elements of this Cafe. Only in this Cafe will you find a 9-foot-wide granite fireplace that is on during the day giving this cafe a cozy airy feel. I walked about 10 blocks from work to grab lunch here. It was totally worth it. I ordered a goat cheese panini and salad for $7.95. Totally awesome deal. Prices are great for being so close to Union Square. I sat at the bar while I waited for my food and the guy working the counter was friendly. I asked if they served dinner, they did not, but he offered to show me the nighttime venue. Service was quick and he even smiled and said thank you. At night this place turns into a swanky luxurious lounge. At night their venue turns from coffeebar to cocktails and desserts. I wish I workerd closer to this amazing cafe. This is a place I would love to sit for hours on end, just sipping my latte whilst gazing at the 9-foot wide fireplace. This place makes me feel like I'm in an episode of Sex in the City. Absolutely Fabulous Darling!
