I'll admit it: when I walked into Griffin, I was impressed. One extra star for decor. The giant chandelier, yes, but I spent a lot of time gazing into the candles mirrored underneath the bar. Oh right,  I spent a lot of time gazing at the candles mirrored underneath the bar. I was kind of bored here. The music wasn't terrible - it was actually pretty decent, but overall the atmosphere is a little confusing. Who ARE you Griffin? Are you the two 19 year old girls making out with each other? Or are you the 21 year old dandy Swedish lad standing on the couch who knew every word to "Poker Face"? Maybe you're the guido-esque couple making a baby in the corner. I just don't know. You'll do a little dancing, a lotta people watching, but you probably won't stay long.

Good entertainment and something differnet than the norm.  Lots of fun to go hang out with a group of friends. The food is just ok.  I've had much better greek food.

Not impressed. First, let me state how poorly organized they are.  Listed as a participating restaurant for Dine LA, we made a reservation for 7 at 8pm tonight.  We were not seated until 9:15pm.  And it wasn't until 9pm that management and staff began to be apologetic with us - we insisted on cocktails on the house and they obliged.  After that first dreadful hour of waiting and almost being ignored, they became quite pleasant and seemed to want to do everything they could to make it up to us.  (They gave us some free apps and drinks.)  Guess you have to pass the hour mark in order to get some attention. Now, I know that as a vegetarian, I should not expect anything extravagant.  I knew exactly what my options were for Dine LA, and yet I still chose to come here with my friends - it's just as much about the experience and company as it is the food.  I could tell just by looking at the menu that it probably wouldn't be worth it, and sure enough it really wasn't.  The food wasn't terrible, but it also wasn't anything spectacular. The Heirloom Beets with burrata was pretty tasty - but then again, you can never really go wrong with burrata.  More beets than burrata, as one would expect, just left me wishing that I had more burrata.  Next came the entree.  Asparagus risotto.  Vegetarian cliche.  Incredibly heavy and very rich...a bit too rich.  I won't lie and say it wasn't tasty, but it left me feeling like I ate a bowl of melted cheese and butter.  Hooray.  What girl doesn't love that feeling?  For dessert, I chose the dark chocolate cake.  It was actually very good with coconut shavings and this crunchy peanut butter like I've never tasted before. As for the restaurant itself, it is very small with an inconvenient bar.  When we were asked to wait by the bar for our table, we found ourselves with no convenient place to stand, and instead were pretty much in the way of all the servers as they bussed dishes back and forth from the kitchen to the tables.  Between the music and the crowd, the restaurant was very loud and it was very difficult to carry a conversation.  As for the bathrooms, one stall was broken and the other was out of toilet paper.  Maybe they were just having a bad night altogether? Doesn't seem like it.  Reading the other reviews now, I realize they tend to be late with a lot of their reservations.  Bottom line, XIV only gets 1 star from me because: 1. Waiting 1 hour and 15 minutes for a table you had a reservation for is just unacceptable, regardless of what is "given" to make up for it. 2. The food is just highly overpriced.  I'm all for paying for a really good meal...I just didn't get what I payed for here. 3. As a vegetarian, the food is just not great.  Anybody can make risotto.  I'm tired of fancy restaurants being lazy with their vegetarian dishes and just basically throwing together whatever vegetable scraps they had left in the kitchen.  A true chef and good restaurant would take the time to make sure EVERY dish is up to par.  I'm just waiting for someone to do something new and exciting to vegetables. Ultimately, the best part of this meal was my company...which really had nothing to do with the restaurant at all.
