I went to the moshulu for a party on a Saturday night and it felt like I was at someones cookout. The place is a mess. They have wicker chairs, plastic cups, and BBQ grill going. They advertise as upscale but it was very down right ghetto. They do not inforce a dress code you can wear anything  and anyone can go. Just a mess. Never again. Don't waste you time going.

People don't really come here expecting authentic or cheap mexican food, do they?  Judging from the other reviews, I guess some were.  After driving by the past few weeks and seeing large crowds of hipsters and wannabes, I came expecting a scene and a good alcoholic beverage.  And I got it...pretty decent mojito.  Food actually is not that expensive, at under $10 an entree.  Actually, compared to all the crappy mexican food in Atlanta, it's not too too bad.  I couldn't stop eating the chips & salsa.  Just adjust your expectations before you go. This place is nightclub-kind-of-loud...if you want a quiet soothing dinner, go to Sotto Sotto or Zaya.  I actually like the fact that it's got a bit of a crowd...too many places in Atlanta are empty and tomblike.  Hip industrial garage-y kind of feel and decor.

Despite its implication, a table reservation does not necessarily mean a table will be reserved for you at the allocated time. A table reservation at XIV for 9pm really meant waiting for 45 minutes until a table big enough for our party opened up. Being seated 45 minutes late also meant that we had a free glass of champagne while we waited and 4 free appetizers for our party of 9 people. We were seated at the chef's table by the kitchen. The waiters apologetically handed us our menus and proceeded to lay down appetizers much to the relief of our growling stomachs. Well no wonder the restaurant was overflowing with people. The food is amazing. The shrimp tempura was a lightly battered prawn that was served with a creamy yet refreshing avocado dip. Better yet, the lobster corn dogs were little balls of diced lobster rolled into a ball, coated in a thin batter and served on a little skewer. The flavors were savory and incredibly tasty. Finally, the chef served up a special dish of his; the caviar parfait. Who knows what each of the five layers in this "parfait" was, but this bite sized morsel of goodness gave a new twist to how caviar is usually served. By this time, we were not very hungry anymore but we still anticipated our entrees nonetheless. I ordered the Tai Snapper, a tapioca crusted snapper fillet served with broccolini and crispy rice. The waitress who took our orders recommended this dish and said it was one of the three most popular dishes on the menu, the other being the chicken and the 8oz filet minon. The crust of the fish was my favorite part of the entree and went well with the vegetables and crispy rice. There was also a light tomato sauce that went along with the fish but I thought it was a little too salty. At the end of the night, the waitress graciously split the bill amongst 8 credit cards and we left with full and satisfied stomachs. The atmosphere in XIV is classy and romantic, perfect for a night of elegant yet trendy dining. Apart from our table not being ready for a long time after our reservation, the service was polite and swift. Definitely plan way in advance if you want to have dinner here but I'd say that it'll be worth it. Good food and good company definitely warrants another visit.
