by Jessi Strebe on This place is alright. It's a decent size and has an upstairs for people with bottle service and another bar. The music wasn't bad but it can get pretty packed so it can get hard to walk around. Apparently the night I was there my friend recognized an NBA player named something or other, I don't follow sports so I didn't really care.
by Sharilyn Albea on Thee* Great American Music is my Favourite Venue in the Bay Area Yes i know i added the extra e that's because its extra amazing.. The architecture is beautiful and dates back to just post Victorian era, even in London England there is not many places like this, The Hackney Empire in East London is a good example which dates from 1901. I have seen some Awesome bands here, Jello Biafra 50th shows last year were incredible as were Shellac a few months back, last show I saw was the Dirty 3 from Melbourne which blew me away(even better then their ATP NY show and that was w/special guest Nick Cave on Piano) so forget Arena shows and support the GAMH & the Bands that play this wonderful venue. The Sound is always Good and ticket prices are affordable. 5*'s :)
by maria d. on To prove to you, my Rateclub audience, that I am more than a joyless shrew who doesn't enjoy fun, I write this review of Little Baobab, a place I enjoyed very much until it turned into a human oven and I got trapped between a lady looking for her sweater and a couple bumping and grinding (anyone remember that R. Kelly song?). In any case, when there was more than a few inches in which to move, this is a really fun place in which to shake your ass to some delightful island tunes. And also drink FIVE DOLLAR ginger margaritas. I love that the curtains are drawn shut so a) no one can see you, tape it on their cell phone and put it on youtube, and b) you don't remember that you're at 20th and Mission. I hate covers, but the 3 dollars to enter this little place is worth it. So see? I don't hate everything. Just most things.
