I'm not quite sure what to say about this place.. it really runs the fine line between awesome and freak show. I was at Carnival for a friend's party on a Saturday night. Another friend and I got there right at 12, just as they started to charge cover. Since we were there for a party (and because I shot a sad puppy dog face at the bouncer) he let us in with no cover. We then climbed the 5 flights of stairs (no elevator?) in heels up to Carnival. The atmosphere was cool -- fun house mirrors, concession stand, carnival games. The games are a bit pricey but what else can you expect from a carnival gone NYC? Tickets are $1 each and each game is about 4+ tickets. Didn't try the food although I noticed popcorn and hot dogs among other typical fare. Drinks were good, roughly $15-20 each and decently strong. They have a yummy giant fishbowl drink for $85, we were told that there are 60 shots of liquor in it, so don't attempt it alone. Waitress service for drinks was terribly slow (one waitress for our whole group - about 25 people). We mainly hung out in the lounge area but there is also a dance floor in the "funhouse" that was really cheesy and reminded us of prom. The burlesque dancers seemed to be having fun as they pranced around on their own elevated dance floor. We got lost on the way out (those damn funhouse mirrors) and somehow ended up in the bowling alley a few floors down. This place is an experience, maybe not the best but definitely an experience.

Oh where to go for a down and dirty breakfast in the ATL before spending a day in L5P? Why, the Majestic of course. Maggi Y. covered most of the bases, especially the rudeness of the wait staff, which borders on comically annoying. I liked the fact that this joint is a people watching gold mine. If you like observing every facet of human nature in one small and narrow space, then the Majestic is your place. The food was decent, and I enjoyed re-discovering that grits taste exactly the same as I remember them when I was living in Georgia - Gritty.
