The Edison has to be hands down the most interesting looking bar in all of Downtown, unfortunately there is not much more that I find appealing here. The cocktails can be amazing if you get one of their master mixology bartenders, but I do not know them by name or face so it is hit and miss for me. The weekends draw a very Bridge and Tunnel crowd that I do not find particularly appealing. Wednesday or Thursdays would be the best night for a locals vibe. Thursdays offers a 14 cent happy hour martini promotion but it is a bit of a scam. The concept is 1930's cocktails at 1930's prices. Unfortunately you are limited to having only one pre-set cocktail at this price and them prices revert to normal. Essentially it is a loss-leader to get you in the place. The space is a former Edison power-plant and much of the equipment has been restored resulting in a stylistic sort of museum. Seating is reserved for reservations so plan ahead if you are coming with a big group. If you are coming with a small crew, be prepared to stand if it is busy. There isn't an actual dance floor per say, but at times the crowd will groove adjacent to raised platform stage. The club is located down a large impressive stairway but smokers will enjoy a large smoking patio right near the entrance.

My buddy took me here for my birthday. We got the omikase, and while it was good, it wasn't Iron Chef-caliber. If Morimoto was there in front of me, I would've said (in Japanese), "Morimoto, where's the beef?" (jk) I did come another time just to grab an eel roll, but that was because it was a business function. Honestly, the food's solid here, but I don't think it'll ever live up to the hype driven by the TV show. Unlike the NYC location, the Philly restaurant doesn't even have cool decor - it just looks weird.

This is a sweet little place - shabby, colorful, convenient, and cheap. The cocktails were so cheap, I thought they were made with soju at first, but no, they use real hard stuff. I didn't have any because I'm on a "no drinking during the week" thing, but I totally wanted to because they sounded so good. Also you can order them by the pitcher (sp? I'm losing my ability to function w/o spellcheck!) which makes them even cheaper. But we stuck to the food. The food is not as awesome as the place. That said, it's still pretty decent. They have a range of salad, appetizers, and real deserts, which is hard to get all in one place. I was a little unhappy with my shrimp in coconut sauce because it's basically a mound of white starch with white sauce surrounded by shrimp. There were no vegetables in it, and the sauce (which is mostly coconut milk) tasted slightly sweet. I'm used to veggies and tanginess, so I felt weird after eating it. It tasted good though. I spent a lot of time mashing the rice in the coconut milk and eating it because it tasted good but it was a little like eating a bowl of cookie dough -fun while you're doing it, and later you think maybe that it wasn't such a good idea and you'd better not do it again. I'd ordered mine without potatoes (because I hate them) so maybe that was the problem. My buddy had the chicken with peanut sauce and that was pretty good. The grilled chicked was served on a bed of sauteed veggies and peanut sauce with a side of couscous that had bits of peas and carrots and stuff all through it. Next time I'm totally having that. And I'm coming back with friends, because of the cocktails :)
