I was there recently for a friends birthday party, our group had 13 people in it, and they did a decent job on accommodating a large party like ours. That said, the food sucks, its appetizers all the way through, small portions of things that don't really taste good. To add insult to injury my friends and I used the rateclubs app on our phones to check in and unlock an offer for a free shot, but our waiter refused to honor it, saying it was only valid on weekdays... nowhere on the offer did it mention a restriction, I felt it was just another way they ripped us off. The performance we just okay, it was a bunch of dudes who looked like ladies lipsyncing to songs on a stage above the bar. After the shows we went downstairs to the clubby part of the place, which was pretty dead, our crew was pretty much the whole crowd... just as well, we would be kind of careful on any girls we would meet there, you never want to go home to find a surprise package waiting for you...

I first came here for KMEL House of Soul to see my ex flame, Ashanti, along with some other random KMEL artists. I really enjoyed the layout for concerts! When I felt like not looking like a loser who went alone to the show, it was easy to hide kinda near the bathrooms but not really, so it looked like I was waiting for a friend in there, while still in sight of the stage. (People probably pitied me!) On a side note, I was only 20 and a "New York resident" at the time...shh. It's OK, I didn't even drink that night. I really came for the music! Second time I came for Torq. No, Trevor, no! Trevor Simpson let me down big time that night. I almost didn't forgive him for playing the most uneventful electronic music ever (to the point where I got so tired of it that I just gradually slowed down dancing with friend 'til we were bumping and grinding instead of actually dancing). But all my love for Mr. Simpson was restored next time I heard one of his mixshows on 92.7 (R.I.P.) later that week. Why couldn't he be as good live on the turntables? And something was up with those tequila shots. 3 (pricey!) shots went down like water, and I still couldn't get myself into the zone to dance to that borefest a.k.a. Simpson's Torq playlist. Either their shots are weak, or I was in a bad state in my life at the time! But who knows, I only went to the Torq debut at Ruby Skye. Maybe it's better now. I don't know, I won't be back to find out. But maybe another night!

I've come to Bruno's plenty of times and the place to me all-in-all has a very laid back feel to it, with all the chairs, tables, etc (+1 star). They do not allow hats, so people do note this, but other than the hat rule I've had no other issues with dress code. I do not like how they charge a $10 cover after 10pm (-1 star). 10pm is a bit early to start charging cover, especially how other places on the street charge $5 or less after 11pm or none at all. The drinks are just as pricey as any other place on the block and the place is just like any other (-1 star) ... the only reason I end up coming here so often is because a couple friends of mine work down the street so it is more convenient for them. Something else that I have grown to dislike is the huge long table right smack dab in the center of the place, forcing everyone to either walk around, or try to crawl underneath it ... which doesn't end very pretty when you've got drinks in your hands, or you've got drunk people all confused trying to get around (-1 star). All night on Friday nights they do have Happy Hour all night (+1 star), but it's not much of a price difference -- just about a $1 off each drink, but at least their trying. They have 3 bars in the place, but still be prepared to wait for a drink (-1 star). Lastly, this one is for the ladies, they've only got 2 stalls (-1 star) ... so on the majority of the nights you've got one that has throw-up all over it, which means you've only got one for the entire night for every woman in the club. So if your the type that always has to use the bathrooms when your out drinking -- avoid this place all together. So if you can go before 10pm, on a Friday, and hold your pee well ... then this is the place to go -- their music and dance floor are pretty good; and they've got plenty of chairs to go around. If those aren't your circumstances, well ... might I suggest another place? =)
