Interior lighting has been brightened, thus losing the cool-hip and dim feel that I craved so much from DELUX. Liquor menu is WAY OUT dated, staff made no effort to compensate. Prices have gone up. Service is consistently INCONSISTENT. There's a TON of places where you can get an $8 cocktail and $10 burger..

I visited ATL for a long weekend and my gf took me to Tongue and Groove on a Thursday. Wow. So glad, she did! Crowd was diverse and lively. There were a few fights but nothing major but drunk people acting a fool. The main room is bumping with go-go dancers and a smallish dance floor. There is a side room where you can rent hookahs, there was a belly dancer, and different music types (Indian, Reggae, World, House, etc). It was crowded without being ridiculously so and I had a fabulous time with my friends. I met a lot of different characters which will provide fodder for my next book. Ha. Much recommended and this from someone from the Tunnel-SoundFactory-Carbon-EXPO era of NYC nightlife!

Great for concerts. The venue is stylish and hip. I mean, as it has to be in Hollywood. It's right next to Hollywood and Vine. The area is bumpin' every night and some nights into the wee hours of the morning. The Avalon hosts different themed nights, including a theatre show, gay night, and big-name DJ's spinning house/trance music. The crowd it attracts is very VERY diverse. There are many many LA "scene" hipsters but all kinds of people show up. All races. The drinks are pricy, but what club doesn't over-charge. The Avalon does have open bars occasionally, which is always a plus. The entrance fee is steep though, and can run you $25, not including a free drink. Which is way too much, unless someone worth seeing was at the club. But overall I enjoy myself here, and will return for concerts.
