by Chance Deraney on MMm'kay. So. Mayes' was first established in 1867 and I am really excited whenever I get to visit a historical San Francisco landmark--Gold Rush tingles weeeE! ...it's reopening is sure to be a smash hit--the conjunction of modern interpretations of Japanese food, classic oceanside fare and zany but elegant design make for a lush experience. Get the poke starter (wonton chips plus smushy fish equal great texture combination), the hamachi starter and a Manhattan! Chat with the friendly staff! The surf and turf was good, but not spectacular...I would experiment more before making a iron-clad recommendation. To be continued! P.S. v. reasonable prices.
by Louise H. on I can't stand this place. It's for hipsters, and it gets super annoying. Everyone is sooo cool because they can stand outside and drink. Oooooh. Wow. People bring their dogs, and the condo building (which seems to have sales issues) tells you not to cross a certain line. I'll give it an A for "alleged" historical character, but I'll give you an "F" if you fall for this place.
by Emerson Milbourn on finally i'm writing a review on the end-up....it is really a place you end up. wink wink...most of the times i've been here have been with 1) my fag...i'm his hag so it's okay that i call him that. we usually go late friday night (fag-fridays)...which is incredibly fun...imagine dancing amongst hot, sweaty, chest baring men...who don't give a shit about me which in turn lets me get lost in the music...2) a group of friends who don't know when to stop. the t-dance sunday morning is fun and super soul sundays are fun too. haven't been back for a while though...i'm on hiatus.
