by Shella Donkervoet on I recently went to Bar Chi with my spouse for a workday lunch. It was the first time we had been there, so we decided to try a variety of different items to get a lay of the land of the place. Here's what we ordered. 1. Crudo of white fish, salmon, cucumber and avocado - great flavors, came with 4 perfectly crunchy chips; wished it had been bigger 2. Calamari - easy to do mediocre, hard to do well - this version was a little heavy on the batter but overall good 3. Mussel pot - lovely plump fresh mussels in a thin cream sauce - very good; could have used more garlic 5. Steak soba salad - tender grilled steak over noodles and fresh greens - came with two different dressings to try - yum (steak comes very rare - ask for it to be more thoroughly cooked if that's your preference) There weren't many people there on a Friday at lunchtime, and we got the full attention of a very helpful waiter. Our green tea teapots were refilled with hot water frequently, and the tea was very strong (as is my preference). Finally, I cannot but also compliment the place for having brown rice available (Piranha doesn't, just FYI), so I ordered a bowl on the side. It was EXCELLENT rice. Normally brown rice at restaurants is mushy and glumpy - this was perfectly made - sticky but with nutty, chewy, slightly al dente grains. A+ on the brown rice, folks. The interior of Bar Chi is standard slick urban sushi bar - very cool, but nothing outstanding. It actually doesn't look like they did much remodeling after Yu left. One final thing - the sink in the womens bathroom was really cool, but there were so many water drip stains on the counter and paper towel dispenser that I wondered how often the place was cleaned. I would have given 5 stars but for the dubious cleanliness of the bathrooms. I was sad when former Yu Sushi closed down - but Bar Chi has has lessened the pain substantially. Great food - hope this place sticks.
by Juliana Keeling on We came here after the Chinese New Year's Parade. Our server (Katie I believe it was) was absolutely horrible! She got the drinks wrong, giving the wrong people, the wrong drinks. Then she got out the entrees, and mixed those up too. Then about 5 minutes after she brings out the first plate, another of our party (of eight) gets his meal. Then another minute and the waitress comes out and tells us that someone took the plate of our plates (the last one, the missing one) and that it'd be up soon. 18 minutes and 23 seconds later we get a plate (Yes, i timed her, it got our at 9:04.21). Never once were our drinks refilled, never once did we get an apology. The place was dirty, and dim, the floors were terribly sticky, and the waitress was just plain incompetent. I'd recommend no one goes here except to laugh at the incompetent waitress waiting on us. Automatic gratuities were automatically added, then promptly requested to be removed. I would not go back, nor would I suggest it to anyone looking for a decent meal. There are better places in the same building.
by Deanna J. on If I ever am a homeowner (or condo owner. or apartment owner, for that matter), I would be quick to steal the style factor from the wallpaper from the top floor. Also the chairs. Definitely a cute and very intimate feeling restaurant. And a huge, huge, gigantic upgrade from what was previously in the space the last time I visited (DaVinci's, for you newer to Atlanta people. But go ahead and forget the name because it was bad, bad news. Marks up there as my top 3 worst dining experiences of all time). I've yet to go for dinner proper, but went for happy hour - and totally loved the specials that Miwako described. Mussels. . .yum. Flank steak. . .yum. Hummus. . . yum. Quite nice of a change. Trendier than many but also with a low-key, laid back vibe. My kinda place, that I'd enjoy trying for dinner proper.
