by Mario S. on This is like a earthier, older W Hotel. If you can't stand the W, you won't like this place. If you're not a big fan of the W 'cause it's too clean and shiny, you'll like this place. I was here over Fourth of July weekend and they had awesome DJs spinning at the pool. Great beats, beautiful sunshine, pool and palm trees. Hard to go wrong.
by Homer Cousineau on FUN! Hot! Sexy :) Are you serious?? Opera CRACKS! I love this spot, without fail every time I go I always have fun. The door people and the bouncers are really nice and cool. My promoter friend was getting me and my girls in for no cover (we got there around 12:30am-ish) but he was faded and not answering his phone when we got there. We were waiting by the entrance for not even 2 minutes when the bouncers were like it's cool don't wait for him you girls can just go right in for free. Nice :) That was very cool of them. The bartenders are fast and they always pour you huge shots and strong drinks (even before you tip them) just because they're cool like that. Very friendly, too! The crowd here is awesome, it's a hot spot so there's a nice mix in the crowd, perfect...not too rockish, not to preppy, not too ghetto, not TOO much of anything but a little bit of everything. Awesome! The DJ always plays a nice mix also, and the cool thing about this place is that even though there's always a lot of people here you actually have ROOM TO DANCE without constantly bumping into people. I hate that. The venue is set up so that there's more than one dancefloor and the passages from each room and to the bar etc are wide enough for people to dance and also for people to pass by, so there's no traffic jams. It's also really beautiful inside, the decor and setup are awesome! Opera is a celeb hot spot. Opera also has a nice smoking section (you know I always have to cover that in my club reviews ;) ) And yes it's 420 friendly but you just can't be super out there with your herbage like you can at some clubs, because there are so many people here. But as SOON as you leave the club everybody starts sparking their blunts on the street. Ok, that was me, too. LOL.... Also when you leave you see the most HILARIOUS drunk-people things going on outside. Last night a limo pulled up and the guy inside started yelling "I have a birth defect!!! I HAVE A BIRTH DEFECT!" out of the window. Ummmm.....WHAT? Ahahahahahahahah! All in all, Opera is one of my favorite spots in Hollywood, a guaranteed good time. Will I be back? Of course! Will I be faded? I hope so! :)
