***Review is for their NIGHTCLUB only (I tried their food a long time ago, so I can't really give a good review for that) Somehow over the years, Medjool has become the default place for my friends and I whenever we are out in the Mission looking for a place to go. Maybe because there aren't really many places in the area for the girls to dance at, but it's still not bad regardless. The funny thing is, none of us would ever say that it's our favorite place to go, but we usually to have a decent time there. I definitely like their rooftop bar, even if it's supposedly in violation of building codes in SF. By far, it's the best thing about the place, and definitely something you should check out on any trip. It's not so much that it's crazy fun up there, but you can get a great view of downtown (from a distance). It does get a little cool up there on almost any given night, but they do have several space heaters that people can huddle under. If you happen to be here on one of the rare, beautiful SF nights however, it's pretty awesome. There are a total of three bars in the place (main floor, rooftop, and on the second/balcony level), so there's definitely alcohol nearby regardless of what level you're on. Prices are pretty typical for this type of place, and they have a decent amount of seating on the main and balcony levels. It never really gets jammed pack in the place, other than the dance floor area, so you don't have to worry about elbowing your way through the crowd too much. And speaking of the crowd, plus points for diversity - definitely one of the more well balanced and mixed ones you will find. Music is pretty good, but there has been a couple of times where the night starts off with the popular stuff, and turns very "eclectic" by the end of the night. That's probably the best way I can describe it. And by the way, there's generally no cover if you get there early enough, but I can't remember if it's 10:00 or 11:00. Three and a half stars overall, but I'm rounding down to three because from what little I remember about it, I didn't think the food was that amazing.

I think it's hilarious that people are claiming that Vertigo is trying to be classy. Vertigo plays ghetto rap music and top 40, serves jello shots, has one, nasty bathroom and is in the Loin. What part of that says TRYING to be classy? People are entitled to their opinion but I go to Vertigo for exactly this reason. I go for the ghetto music that you can dance your slutty ass off to. I go for the jello shots and the angry fights over the smelly one-staller. I go for the diverse crowd; it's a fantastic change from my normal Marina scene. Even on an off night I've never had a bad time here. I drink. I shoot the shit. I dance my ass off. And if I'm lucky I'll come home with the mark of a great night: a colorful tongue compliments of whatever flavor jello shots they're serving...last night it was blue.
