by Tommy Everman on I want to believe in Vanguard... I really do. I've had one "Top Notch, A+, Awesome" experience and one "Take it or leave it, this makes me not really want to go back" experience. Both times I was there seeing a big name DJ. Once was a Thurs and once was a Saturday. The first time I went it was... ...crowded, but pleasantly so. ... LOUD. Appropriately for a big name DJ. ... nice bartending staff. They were helpful with times for the DJs, kept a good eye on the crowd and were actually working hard. ... great patio set-up. Including awesome photo booth. (always a good choice). ... excessively random clientele, but overall people seemed to get that they were at a show and enjoyed the music. At the end of the night - it was a good time. I recommended going back. Second time around... ... WAY too croweded. The new promoters had a "VIP" line longer then the ticketed line. None of those Hollywood club kids give a rats ass about good music - they want to get wasted. ... WTF happened to the music? I could barely hear it. Instead I could hear the nasty guy next to me blabbing about some girl. Thanks, but no thanks. I came to hear the DJ. ... Forget the bartenders - they hired a bunch of stuck up assholes to replace the nice guys. ... Saving grace - the patio. They hired a pretty awesome DJ for outside and you could actually breathe there. Please bring back the old Vanguard. And if you don't want to hear the DJ and dance... Please don't come. I won't rain on your parade if you won't rain on mine.
by Bart Mittelman on This is ok for me. The club kids are not as fun as they were when I clubbed really, really hard in the late 90's early 2000's. But partying with these new talents, they can get high and sleep more with strangers better than we old folks did! LAX is the place for YOU TO hook or party with celebs if you catch them, but give or take another 3-4 months after 2006, this club will passe, and a new one will overtake or replace this club like a vega. So it's aite for the hype. I got into this several time without paying so that's a plus, other than that if you pay $40-50, it's not worth the bitch next to you in line nagging in your ears because she got denied
