Yoshi's is generally a top notch addition to San Francisco nightlife. We went to see Jazz Mafia last night, which was great. The restaurant was surprisingly empty. Despite this, the service was pretty slow, as we sat and waited for drinks for a long time given how few tables were filled at 8:45pm. The strangest thing was that when I ordered a bottle of very nice Chassagne-Montrachet, they sent over a bus boy to open the bottle. That is fine, I suppose, but the poor guy had literally no idea how this little routine is supposed to go. He struggled mightily to get the cork out, turning his back to us for what seemed an eternity, and then poured my date and I both tastes to confirm it wasn't corked. Then, as he had broken the cork, he handed the dry half to me to inspect. "Thank you sir, the top of this wine cork looks fine!" He also looked very uncomfortable the whole time. Very strange. Come on management -- train your staff if you want to use them like this. But Jazz Mafia was completely fun and we had a great time during and after the show. It was a great night. The food was spot on too -- the Chef's sashimi selection was fab!

Note this review is for their Hot Salsa Friday nights: I'd been here before but had not been upstairs which turns out to be as large a space as the main floor area but not as crowded. It was Friday night and the free salsa class was starting at 7pm and so Obed and I planted ourselves at the bar while waiting for it to end. I have to say that their bartenders are more than fair with their pouring. In fact, I drunk 4 spicy diablo margaritas (basic on the rocks margarita with hot sauce spiked into it) between 6pm and 11pm and I was still feeling it the next morning. Yes, I am weak. But I know what a tequila hangover feels like and I wasn't going to mess with that. Per many of the reviews here, I wasn't quite sure what to expect but I actually had a great time. There are a couple of very good dancers and having a lot of room on the dance floor is a novelty for me. The drinks are strong. The music is good and loud. And I'll definitely be back for another Hot Salsa Friday!

After reading the reviews here I had to chime in. WHAT ABOUT THE BEERS? OMG soooo many imported brews on tap served in the appropriate glassware? This is awesome!!! Not to mention that everything on the menu here comes out to less money than the god awful Fudrucker's that so many cardboard people in Phoenix adore. I wont even go into my dreaded $13 lunch experience there. EW! An amazing burger for 9 bucks. A shared basket of fries for 5. 10 or 12 beers at 4.75 each? This is a dream come true. If you don't look out the window you can even forget you are in a parking lot. This place is even open late so after a night of bar hopping and parking lot traversing you can still pop in here and get a burger and beer in appealing surroundings. LOVE IT!
