This is a review for the lounge only. Came here last night for a friend's bday. Lined up at 10:25pm and didn't get in til 11:05pm. I find it "funny" how the line didn't budge at 10:30 - 10:40 but magically starts moving at 11:01pm. We were on the guestlist but those jerks slowed down the line on purpose, so we had to pay $20 cover. I carpooled with my guy friend and we had no trouble getting in (i read about having a 2:1 guy girl ratio? not really true from my experience). We finally get in and the club wasn't even that full! I must say the venue is beautiful - a lot prettier than any other club in SF (and i've been to my fair share). Yes, it did remind me a little of Vegas and the gogo dancers were gorgeous. What i loved the most is the VENTILATION. I HATE clubs with poor air circulation and it ends up feeling like i'm in a sauna. Cocktails are decently strong at about $10 a pop (pre-tip) and $6 for a heinekin. It's hard to find street parking around that area since it's located in the heart of downtown/union square. Expect to pay $10 at the nearby parking garages/lots. I suggest signing up on the guestlist and getting in line at 10pm if you want to make sure you make the list on time... i WOULD NOT pay $20 again to come here.

It was super crowded and they didn't have our table ready. So we walked through and realized everyone was at oak anyway, so we left. I've heard so many good things about this place, it was a disappointment. I wouldn't go back, it's not near the other clubs so you have to take a cab to get some where else. blah, I don't have much more to say for the box.

I was doubtful that I could adjust to El Sol's new location after being a long-time fan of the S. Congress spot but, after several visits, I can once again count myself as a regular. I have yet to go after dark, but have now gone half a dozen times for lunch and brunch. The plantain breakfast (with egg whites upon request) is still one of the best hangover cures in the city. The mole chicken enchiladas are yummy as well. Overall, the food seems to have gotten better than it was at the old location. The service at brunch/lunch is as unpredictable as ever--always friendly, but staff can be a bit inattentive at times. Parking has always been easy during the day. Don't forget to feed the meter! The new space looks like it'd be a nice spot for happy hour and I have plans to check it out after dark.
