Went with a friend last night to celebrate my b-day and wanted to catch some live music kinda last minute and found Coda on a Rateclub! search. I dug the red lights on the brick wall, and most seats weren't too brightly lit ( some has a little spot light action that wasn't ideal), cool open beam ceiling and decent acoustics keep it from getting too loud to be able to talk. $10 cover, but don't know what time that starts - we arrived around 10:30ish. Pleasant staff & service. By midnight, half the tables were empty on a Friday night ... maybe it depends on the band or event though.

This place is nothing short of a modern day Studio 54!!! Half naked angels doing Cirque du Soleil moves in the air!!! freakin crazy!!I saw Erick Morillo last night and he had the house jumpin until 7am!!! The venue is cool and the sound system is amazing!!!! The only drawback was the line to get in. Very unorganized and took forever to get in, even with a paid ticket. My recommendation is to show up around 2am or so. You won't have to wait in line and the crowd will have thinned out a bit by then to where you actually have room to enjoy yourself!! If you're a house-head, then you will be in heaven here!!! Time for me to get some well deserved rest!!!

The food: Being a big fan of authentic and good mexican food, I found the food here to be barely passable. I don't know, but don't go there if you're looking for some satisfying authentic mexican food. The hard taco was disappointing. Sure it had shredded beef in it, but it was soaked or sauteed in what tasted like tomato paste. The ceviche was not citrusy enough, and had the vague taste of dirt. The guacamole, OMG, the guacamole tasted like green slime with way too much lemon in it! I'd be surprised if there was even a quarter of an avocado in it. Great guacamole is made to order. The carne asada was ok - i guess it's hard to screw that up. The beans tasted like they had come from a can - totally bland. The only good thing was the chicken wings, not even mexican food. Maybe it's a good place to come and get margaritas and wings to watch the game. The service: Maybe our waiter was annoyed that we didn't like the food, maybe he was stressed because he was the only one there with 3 whole tables taken and 3 people at the bar. Regardless, he was short, and rude, and would basically do a fly-by our table every time he brought us something or asked us if we needed anything. I mean, if you're going to ask, at least act like you give a crap. I'm never going back there again. With a one-star rating, I'm sure there are plenty of 3-star places that would put this place to shame. **(And yes, if it came down to it - I'd rather go to El Torito, as americanized as it is.)
