So we (my gf and I) went down here for our anniversary. All the buzz aside, did Zahav rise to the occasion for our romantic evening? Well, yes. We were seated promptly at our reserved time and opted for the Taste of Zahav (such a deal!). We started off with their signature drink (Lemonanna?), which was refreshing though we were both wishing it packed a little more punch. Our waiter was helpful, though hardly charming ("I could like... eat those every day" was his usual comment). The eight salads appetizer was a bit of a let down (more misses than hits), but we quickly forgot about it when the hummus came. We opted for the Turkish hummus which is served warm with butter and garlic; it disappeared in less than two minutes. The highlight of the night came next: the Moroccan pastilla - savory veal cheeks wrapped in sweet philo dough and baked to perfection. "I could like...eat those every day" indeed! We got the fried cheese (good) and the fried cauliflower (the sauce is good, the cauliflower is okay) and finished off with a chicken dish (a bit too dry) and the best grouper I've ever had ("The Gulf"). For desert, I got the passionfruit semifredo (divine), while the gf ordered the creme brule (a surprise hit). By the end, we were sated to say the least and made plans to return in the near future. The one downside is that decor reminded us both of an Olive Garden. We reminded ourselves, however, that we've eaten at a lot of places that looked way hipper, but whose food was sub-par to say the least.

note: this is a temporary rating. went to tfc last night for the happy hour (what girl can resist ayce fried chicken and beer?) and here's what went down... sent in recon around 6pm to grab a table. waitress completely ignores him and proceeds to seat the couple behind him. then she blows him off again when he calls her on it. i run in at 6:20, see an empty table at the far end and point to it when asking the waitress if it's available. she says, "we have no chairs" and walks off. i walk closer to the empty table - it's a freaking booth! there's one bag sitting on the bench so i guess it's been claimed. guh. whatever. crammed back into that tiny elevator and went across the street to bon chon. i want to go back and give it more stars, but for now it remains at 2. one for smelling oh so delicious and the other for the potential of not having that jerkball for a waitress when i go there next time.
