by Bobbin W. on I've dined at Slice a handful of times over the years and quickly became uninterested in the pizza and house salad dressing. Although, I must qualify that I once had a wonderful bacon, feta and spinach slice at this aptly named lunch destination. After ignoring this Fairlie-Poplar eating option for a good year, I gave it another chance on Friday, resolving to order something other than pizza. Upon the bubbly waitress' suggestion, I had the vegetarian lasagna. Mushrooms, spinach and ricotta filled the layers, devoid of the tomato sauce that only covered the top. While the ingredients were fresh and tasted good, the lasagna lacked something to distinguish it from a Stouffer's frozen meal. Attempting to practice prudence, I ate one of the two pieces of garlic bread. The waitress was great and the food, pretty good. Slice is still an acceptable lunch spot near my office.
by Beth W. on I went last Friday night with Laura F. to check out the new hot Door 44. I also went before the GRAND opening, so not as crowded as the other spots in this area. But I don't think that is really a bad thing. I like to be able to walk around and not knock into people. There was a pretty good crowd, a good mix. I love the decorations, mostly red and black. The bar has roses in it and lit up. There are several different rooms, the one that sticks in my head is one of the VIP areas that has demon? heads lined along the wall, I am still kicking myself for not taking a picture of it. next time, next time.. There is a t-ninesy dance floor downstairs, with another bar. The stairway is lined with mirrors. There are dancers upstairs, that are dressed like pin-up girls dancing around on boxes. They have a nice patio if this weather ever calms down. And the location couldn't be much better, right next to Twisted Taco and just down the street from Cosmo/Lava. This place is hot.
