It all happened one night last week, or maybe the week before. We were standing in the corner - tricked out with dance-or-dine sensibilities and under-sized t-shirts - cowering under the scrutiny of an unkind light. You were the two girls, brash in nature and appearance - pouring out of an assortment of mal-intentioned crevices in your clothing. The first meanders to the prettier of the boys, hands pushing through her profile; the second snaps me up with a well to do yank. Jostled to life I shake a hip, then another - this half-black broad stares deep into my ear lobe, her cross-eyed disposition leaving me stranded. I'm apologetic and quick to siddle my head to the left to meet her gaze. Turning from me she pushes both hands to the wall, looking over her shoulder and loudly asserting, "freak me!" Never one to stand ravenously staring at the protruding figure of a girl writhing against an uninterested wall, I stepped forward pushing my dignity into her cushioned insistence. Not that I knew what to do here, does anyone really? This is the bastion of the bedroom. Scooting my mind through an assortment of white collar (trash) television I was reminded of many a Marina boy. Tuck in that shirt, upright - you're white, wasted and well-to-do; hands clasping her waist I did what fourteen minutes in a hip-hop club implied - looked entirely awkward, fidgety and kept my eyes fixated on the wall. I'm a hit. No, no she grabs my hands and pulls one unto the nether region - pushing the other into an inviting gap in her v-neck. Well this was awkward.
