One of my best friend's had her "surprise" bday party here. Her bf reserved a few tables for everyone by the large screen projection of 1950's burlesque women trying to dance. It was just weird but I think it's safe to assume that management thought this might be a cool background. If you are going to play something on a huge screen....at least make it pleasing to the eye and interesting. This space was a good size for a lounge, with a dj and small dance floor on one end and a long bar along the side. It was a little tough to get a drink but not too bad. The music was house that particular night. I think more people would have danced if they played hip-hop or something. Other than that, this place is okay and probably not going to come again. There are too many other great lounges in SF.

This place can not not make it. With all of the chains - upscale and otherwise - we need a place in Midtown that's got a bit of quirk, and this place fits the bill in spades. After choosing to enter even thought it looked closed, we picked inside over patio and we were seated just in front of the DJ. At 9 pm. On a Wednesday. It started with a bit of techno, and then it was dialed back slowly, surely, to a funkier time when Hot Chocolate believed in Miracles and cops weren't in hot pursuit of James Brown. We ordered what were more-than-adequate pilaf and gyros, and got down with our bad selves. Was it weird? Absolutely. I have lived in Germany and seen weird, and this topped that. But was it good? No question there. The food was good, the service was excellent and weird isn't always a bad thing. They've got tons of square footage, and I doubt they'll make it long with the business we saw tonight. So give them a shot, and at the very least, you'll probably walk away asking yourself "What the hell was that?"

Whiskey Park is not your typical Atlanta bar, and for that alone it gets some points. It's def more swank than most places I've been - the closest comparison, locally, I can give it is maybe the posh feeling of Door 44, but without the cool rocker chicks. The thing that amused me is that the crowd didn't fit the vibe. Atlanta is just such a casual city. It was a mix of unpretentious looking 20-and-30-somethings and older men, who were likely guests at the hotel. The decor at the W, in general, if fabulous. There's so much to see. The outdoor patio at Whiskey Park, though intimate and romantic, is surrounded on all sides by what are essentially walls with slits in them... though it does have an open ceiling, it really in not much of a patio and may as well be inside. When we arrived (a bit on the early side on a Thursday), all the seating areas were reserved, but we were allowed to sit down until the reserved party arrived (we vacated the area before that ever happened). The crowd picked up around 11pm and the bar area was pretty crowded. Drinks average about $13 each, and I do have to say that they were delicious, but still... $13. I recommend the Blueberry Acai Martini or the Guava Sin.
