by Boris Gallante on It was a toss up at the beginning of the night between Opera and Sutra, and I'm glad we chose Sutra b/c I had a great time :). My good friend knew the owner, who hooked us up w/ free entry on a Saturday night! Otherwise I think it would've been $10 to get in. Right when we got through the door, we were greeted by the really sweet club photographer who took our pic. My group & I walked into an already poppin' place (think it was 11pm), great vibe, purrrdy lights, music vids on multiple big screens and groups sitting at low tables smoking hookah. We took a tour of the pretty spacious spot and I loved that there was a big patio w/ tables out back, and another bar. I think if you own a club, you HAVE to make spots where people **ahem, GIRLS** can sit towards the end of the night. Kudos, club owner. Note: - I wouldn't call this place diverse in terms of music (pretty much mainstream hip-hop all night) nor in terms of people. I was most likely the only Asian girl in the joint, haha. - I can't say much for the bartenders or the drinks... I had a flight to catch 4 hours later so I weighed the odds of getting lost at the terminal and decided to play it safe, haha =p - My girlz & I had to pretend like we were lesbees because of the Creeper-McCreepsters trying to corner us away from the rest of the group -- just to let you in on what kind of peeps you might run into here. This obviously has nothing to do w/ the club itself, but might take a toll on your overall experience here so just be careful ;)
by Franklyn Zoellner on I recently discovered a gem here. To Go Lunch. They serve breakfast tacos until 4 p.m. Their tacos are $2 for a three item taco. A teeny bit more for four or five. $2.50 for a giant delicious migas taco. On any tortilla. The choice of filling is infinite. So, get a taco. Get a cup of their tortilla soup. This soup comes with a precious packet of fixings--avocado, tortilla strips, cheese, and cilantro. That's $3.25. You can get a fabulous lunch (both kinds of yummy salsa included) for less than you'd pay for a crap lunch from Subway. If you chosen a whole wheat tortilla and healthy fillings like black bean and spinach, you have also been virtuous. They are so nice when you call. Place your order, pick it up at the bar in 15 minutes, you're gone. Oh--and if you want to kiss major ass at work, you can pick up 10 three item tacos with your choice of tortilla and salsa for $12.95. Seems too good to be true. Love!
by Jeffrey L. on During this summer, the aquarium has been having jazz nights every Friday evening. And on the two nights I've been, the bands were actually pretty good. They used to serve alcoholic beverages during this, but apparently that has all but stopped. There's a good mix of young professionals, older couples and families. During these hours, it's not very crowded, so it's a good time to explore the exhibits if you don't mind the music reverberating from the main hallway.
