My friends and I were looking for a great spot with ambiance and great food to celebrate my friend's birthday. After reviewing some of our options for hip spots in midtown, we tried calling Two urban licks for reservations, but had to settle for One Midtown Kitchen. Bob took my reservation over the phone and was extremely gracious in accommodating an increase in our party size to 8 people just hours before the dinner. Bob was great. The atmosphere was very laid back and hip. Everything else was terrible. We were seated at 8:45 for our 8:30 reservation, which wasn't bad. It took thirty minutes to take our drink orders and another 20 to take our dinner orders. Our food however took over an hour and a half to arrive at our table. I ordered the chocolate pasta with lamb for appetizer which was really good. I loved my wife's apple Martini. She didn't because of the herbs and spices, but I really thought it was great. The risotto my wife ordered as an entree portion was a handful and although delicious "was really a 'smell' instead of a 'taste' as there was so little of it.". My Nantucket Scallops were a bit tart. They were well cooked, but too cold when served. I received my entree (the last entree served) about 15 minutes after the first of our party's entree was served. And for a $25 scallops entree, my main course left a great deal to be desired. The kitchen manager stopped at our table 45 minutes after we had placed our order and told us our food "was being plated right now". We didn't get our plates for another 30 to 45 minutes. They did offer us a round of drinks to make up for it, but too little too late. My friend's birthday dessert serving was rich with chocolate and delicious. We were not in a rush and didn't expect fast food service times, but for our dinner to take over three hours was unexpected, especially as we arrived hungry, left hungry, and had to augment the plans we had afterwards. A late night run to Goodfellas pizza made up for our hunger later. Pros: Bob, ambiance Cons: poor service, mediocre food

I only went on to LAX on July 4th cause my Bff girlfriend from high school is dating the owner! Otherwise, I'd never ever wait in line to get into anything! And I mean anything! So since we had the door like whoa! We just walked right in! It was awesome! We had like the most amazing time ever! We were so wasted after a smorgasbord blitz of shots the bartender kept sending to us in the VIP! I mean when I tell you we were zooted, I mean I was soo gone that somehow I forgot that you couldn't smoke a joint in public, in a dance club! Hehe! This being California, home of the Kush, and all that other bomb ass ganja all the East peeps front like they have but its just hocus pocus....Well anyways, nobody really cared! And after my girl Desiree put 1 of the bouncers in check after he tried to grab my arm, it was all good! We just hit it til I couldn't stop coughing as I was choking on my lung! I hadn't smoked up, since ohh, the 1999 NYE Prince concert in Vegas! Wow how time flies! So you know I was flying unleaded! And "Like OMG!" The VIP was popping! Like Everybody was there! Paris Hilton! Kim Kar-damn-she-hoin! Collin Farell was there with the guy from Entourage. Dr.Dre and Eve, and that hot ass lil gorgeous chick Megan Fox was there killing the dance floor with all her super transformer moves! There was enough bodyguards in the place for every clubber to have their own! And of course there was a whole bunch of other wanna-be sucker punk actors who you recognize but that are too lame to actually remember or learn their feeble names! So all in all it was an unforgettable night! Even though I can barely remember anything! We ended up at Mels famous dinner on Sunset getting our munchies on! Until it was time to go to an afterhours party at some jizzillionaires mansion in Sunset Plaza! LA you gotta love it!

There's definitely something to be said for easing into the weekend out on the water watching the sun set with a bunch of friends. I think my favorite aspect of this place is the ad hoc nature of the seating. People seemed to be forming into groups of various sizes and sitting or standing as necessary, all in a very natural and relaxed way. I'm told that the food here is rather good, but the environment is much better suited to drinking than eating. Definitely a premium drinking experience- I observed some friends buying pitchers of domestic beer at $24 a pop...wow. Unique and a nice break from the rest of NYC.
