by Peg Luzell on I went here the other day and I have to say that I'm quite surprised that there's a mechanical bull in the heart of Williamsburg. Interestingly enough, the place was completely empty on a Friday night at 8PM. I can only speak of the drinks as I did not eat here. The drinks were on the smaller side and not strong at all. Not really weak either, but for $8 a pop, I was expecting a bigger glass or more alcohol or something. They have standard beer on tap - nothing really popped out, so I ended up ordering my usual Blue Moon before I switched to liquor. The food smelled pretty awesome, but then again sizzling fajitas always smell awesome (to me). I suppose the real question here is why is this place completely empty during a prime dinner hour?
by Reagan Salsa on This venue is tiny! Like really flippin' tiny. It's so tiny I felt a bit claustrophobic... So yeah, it wasn't the best venue I've ever been to. The bands took forever to set up due to malfunctioning equipment, inbetween sets people were told off by staff for sitting down on the floor, poor lighting and all together it was kind of a let down for me. I don't want to be completely negative, so here's some good things about the cafe du nord as well: it's a beautiful venue, the bathrooms (while narrow and small) are kind of cool, and there were free posters on the wall (they might not have been free, but nobody cared when I took them either). So, not a complete waste of time.
