It was called the Ritz back in the day. When the Ritz relocated, Webster Hall reopened in 1992. I have read some of the reviews and also have always heard things about Webster Hall that are contrary to my own experience here. First I want to dispel the myth that people over 40 don't dance or go to clubs. I am 47 and my husband is 45 and we both like to dance. People do mistake me for my twenties but it doesn't matter my eggs are still 47! When I go out to dance that is all I do. I am a dancing machine I don't drink or anything else. I just dance. I have been to Webster Hall over the years and it changes and goes up and down in popularity. But my experiences are always the same. Maybe because I only go to dance. I am old enough to have gone to clubs like Studio 54, Copacabana and other famous dance clubs. When I was 15 I had a fake ID not to drink and I didn't drink but just to get into clubs and dance. Webster Hall is not classy like the Grande dames of clubs back in the day but it is just fine it will do. I like the variety traveling from floor to floor with different music. I have read about nasty guys grinding against girls in other reviews. That doesn't happen to me. It never has. Those creepy guys don't bother with me they don't want to embarrass themselves. I go with my husband. We just like to dance and have fun. I used to be a professional dancer back in the day. And he is a pretty good dancer too. So it is obvious I was there to dance and not for anything else. I am not really up on the latest clubs like I used to be so if I go out dancing I go where I know which is Webster Hall. It is a mix of tourists , New Yorkers, and people from LI and Jersey. A very mixed crowd. The bouncers have never bothered me at all. A note for tourists, I am not sure that you will get a genuine NYC feel by going here as many go because that is what they want. It caters to tourists and to so many with different tastes I am not sure you will get that. But you can get a feel for how crowded NYC venues are.

This place is hit or miss... we rolled in one night there was live music. We proceed to get drinks at the bar... listening to the music... having a nice time. We see a table becomes free and we rush to get it. We sit down with our fresh drinks... each one of us got one... and we are waiting and aiting for a waitstaff person to come over... nothing... being chopped livered. finally she comes and she clearly looked flustered... finally after having a hard tme getting service I motion to a woman that looks like she could be an owner... while we waited to be helped the kitchen closed... then we find out that they were only serving certain dishes... so we order... then the lady tells us there is a two drink minimum... I am like... we already ordered drinks from the bar... don't those count... and I am thinking... we are ordering food that costs way more than the $4 drink I am having. She stated that they weren't charging a cover... therefore... there was a 2 drink minimum... I was driving so that was it on the drink spree for me. Then a very annoying drunk patron comes to bother us... he seemed like a regular... so, no one bothered to take him off our backs... annoyed with the situation... we just paid and left... this was such a different experience than what I had before... was it the night we were there? Has the place going down a bit? I honestly don't know... maybe just an off night... the musicwas great... I got my pear cider... and we sha;; see what happens next time... I had never had such a weird time there.
