by Matthew P. on Straight couple went in after the ING Marathon...great time, good patrons and bartender. We were not looked at oddly or treated differently than the gay patrons/regulars. Definitely a dive bar - drinks were pretty cheap as well.
by Kendal Heider on The last time I went into Koko, it was because I really had to take a piss. It was the scuzziest dive to end all dives. Because they don't usually like non-customers using the bathroom, I grabbed a quick shot of Jim Beam. It was in a crappy rounded 1oz shot glass and cost $6. SIX BUCKS! That was the old KoKo, but now it's got new owners and it's totally revamped. They did a great job of cleaning the place up. The bartender / owner told me that they got it done with about three weeks of 12 hour days. They must've been slave drivers or really hard workers. If you've seen the before and after, you'd understand why. They have interesting bottled beers and a nice top-shelf collection too. I even saw some of the bottles they use for well drinks, and they're a cut above your standard Popov. We had Sapphire martinis. They were huge and the guy made them with care. At about 6.50 a pop, they were a nice deal too. It's neat that they kept the old name and sign.
